The successful candidate will maintain accurate financial records, support financial reporting and planning, monitor expenditures, ensure regulatory compliance, and provide reliable financial information to support strategic decision-making. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who understands the importance of financial accuracy, accountability, compliance, and operational efficiency in a research-driven, highly regulated environment. We are seeking a proactive, analytical, and detail-oriented Accountant to manage and support its financial operations. Key Responsibilities: Support the development and improvement of accounting processes, controls, and reporting systems. Track project-related costs and support financial reporting for grants, research projects, partnerships, and funded programmes where applicable. Collaborate with Finance, Operations, Research, Procurement, Administration, and Management teams on financial matters. Assist with tax filings, statutory reporting, audits, and regulatory reviews. Identify financial discrepancies, investigate variances, and recommend corrective actions. Prepare financial analysis and management reports to support informed business decisions. Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, statutory requirements, and internal financial policies. Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Manage day-to-day accounting transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, expenses, and payments. Maintain proper documentation and financial controls to ensure audit readiness. Support budgeting, forecasting, cash-flow management, and financial planning activities. Prepare journal entries, financial schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation. Safeguard company assets and ensure appropriate financial controls are maintained. Perform monthly bank, cash, supplier, customer, and general ledger reconciliations. Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, ledgers, and supporting documentation. Ensure financial transactions are properly authorized, documented, classified, and recorded. Monitor departmental, project, research, and operational expenditures against approved budgets. Monitor accounts receivable and payable to support effective cash-flow management. What Success Looks Like Accounting processes become increasingly efficient through continuous improvement. Financial reports are delivered accurately and within required timelines. Statutory, tax, and regulatory obligations are consistently met. Expenditure is properly monitored against approved budgets. Project and research-related finances are properly tracked and reported. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls. Good understanding of Nigerian tax, statutory, and regulatory requirements. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, research-driven, and multidisciplinary environment. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong analytical, numerical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of financial reporting requirements: for funded research programmes and institutional partnerships. Previous experience: in Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Healthcare, Pharmaceuticals, Medical Research, Diagnostics, or a related industry. ICAN, ACCA, CPA, CMA, or an equivalent professional qualification. Experience: with ERP platforms such as Sage, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, or similar systems. Familiarity with research and development expenditure, laboratory operations, procurement, and inventory accounting. Experience: managing project, research, grant, or donor-funded accounts.
