It operates a fully integrated iron ore mining and processing facility. We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Switchyard Engineer (Electrical - Switchyard & Substation) Location: Ikorodu, Lagos Employment Type: Full-time Job Summary The Switchyard Engineer is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient operation, maintenance and supervision of switchyard electrical systems and high-voltage equipment. The role involves monitoring switchyard operations, coordinating maintenance activities, troubleshooting electrical faults and ensuring compliance with electrical safety standards and company procedures. Key Responsibilities: Coordinate with control room, generation, transmission and maintenance teams to ensure reliable power supply. Monitor electrical parameters including voltage, current, frequency, power factor and transformer loading. Maintain accurate records of equipment performance, faults, maintenance and inspections. Troubleshoot electrical faults and coordinate corrective maintenance activities. Support relay testing, breaker testing, transformer testing and other electrical diagnostic activities. Supervise and monitor the operation of switchyard equipment and high-voltage electrical systems. Coordinate planned and preventive maintenance of switchyard equipment. Ensure all activities comply with applicable electrical codes, company standards and HSE requirements. Investigate electrical incidents, trips and equipment failures and recommend corrective actions. Provide technical guidance to electrical technicians and operators. Ensure housekeeping and safety standards are maintained within the switchyard. Ensure protection and control systems are operational and report any abnormalities promptly. Monitor transformer performance, oil levels, temperature, protection systems and associated auxiliaries. Participate in root-cause analysis of recurring electrical equipment failures. Ensure proper switching operations and isolation procedures are followed before maintenance activities. Conduct inspections of switchyard equipment and identify abnormalities, defects and potential failures. Ensure compliance with electrical safety procedures, LOTO requirements: and permit-to-work systems. Prepare and maintain switching schedules, equipment checklists, maintenance records and operational reports. Operate and maintain transformers, circuit breakers, isolators, CTs, PTs/CVTs, busbars, surge arresters and associated equipment. Participate in testing and commissioning of switchyard equipment and protection systems. Support emergency response during electrical faults, equipment trips and power interruptions. Ensure proper earthing and lightning protection systems are maintained. Requirements: Possess a B.Tech / B.E ./ HND in Electrical Engineering or Electrical & Electronics Engineering with 5 – 8 years of relevant experience: in switchyard, power plant, transmission or high-voltage electrical operations. Good understanding of transformers, circuit breakers, isolators, CTs, PTs/CVTs and busbar systems. Strong knowledge of high-voltage electrical systems and switchyard operations. Experience: working with 11kV / 33kV / 132kV or higher-voltage systems will be an advantage. Relevant professional certification will be an added advantage. Experience: in power generation, mining, heavy industry or large industrial plants is preferred. Knowledge of electrical protection, control and instrumentation systems.
