MIM’s aim is to provide straightforward and instant finance to consumers in a bid to help solve the current access to finance problems in Africa. MIM’s products would also make it possible for low and middle-class earners to acquire white goods and solar energy-generating equipment in a bid to resolving the electricity challenge engulfing the continent. We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Financial Controller Location: Lagos Job Type: Full-time Role Summary The successful candidate should be capable of operating at senior management level, advising the CEO and management team while maintaining strong day-to-day control of the Company's financial operations. The role is responsible for financial reporting, CBN regulatory and prudential reporting, budgeting and forecasting, treasury and liquidity oversight, financial controls, audit, tax, lending-related finance and team leadership. The Financial Controller will provide senior leadership and hands-on ownership of MIM Finance's finance function. Key Responsibilities: Maintain robust financial controls, approval processes, reconciliations, accounting policies and appropriate segregation of duties. Partner with Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit, Credit, Operations, Product and Commercial teams on financial, regulatory and control matters. Provide financial oversight of the lending portfolio, including interest income, loan receivables, impairment/provisioning, collections reconciliation and product profitability. Provide financial insight, scenario analysis and recommendations to the CEO and management team to support business and investment decisions. Lead the Finance function and take ownership of the quality, accuracy and timeliness of financial information provided to management. Own the preparation, review and timely submission of applicable CBN regulatory and prudential returns, maintaining a clear regulatory reporting calendar. Lead annual external audit coordination, tax compliance and other statutory finance requirements: and drive timely closure of audit findings. Oversee core finance operations including payables, receivables, payments, bank reconciliations, control accounts and financial recordkeeping. Prepare and review monthly management accounts, financial statements, budgets, forecasts, cash-flow reports and management analysis. Lead, supervise and develop the Finance team, establish clear standards and create a culture of accuracy, accountability and control. Monitor liquidity, treasury, funding requirements, bank balances and key financial obligations to support sustainable lending operations. Key Performance Expectations Effective leadership, development and accountability of the Finance team. Strong cash-flow, liquidity and treasury visibility. Reliable budgets, forecasts and financial insight for management decision-making. Accurate and timely management accounts and executive financial reporting. Strong internal controls and finance governance. Effective audit coordination and timely closure of findings. Timely reconciliations and prompt resolution of financial exceptions. Accurate and timely CBN regulatory and prudential submissions with minimal regulatory exceptions. Requirements: Experience: & Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience: within a CBN-regulated financial institution or closely related regulated financial-services environment. Experience: in a finance company, fintech, lending business, microfinance bank or commercial bank is particularly relevant. Proven experience: engaging senior management, auditors, regulators and other high-level stakeholders. Minimum of 10 years of progressive professional experience: across Finance and/or Accounting. ACA, ACCA or an equivalent recognised professional accounting qualification is required. Advanced Excel and strong working knowledge of accounting/ERP and financial reporting systems. Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or a related discipline. Minimum of 5 years of that experience: must be at senior finance leadership or management level, with responsibility for leading people and/or owning a significant Finance function, controllership remit or major finance workstream. Strong practical experience: in management accounts, financial reporting, IFRS, budgeting and forecasting, treasury/liquidity, audit, tax and financial controls. Demonstrable hands-on experience: with CBN regulatory/prudential reporting and regulatory compliance from a Finance perspective. Experience: in lending or credit-related finance, including loan accounting, interest income, impairment/provisioning and portfolio profitability, is strongly preferred. Leadership & Professional Competencies: Commercial and analytical mindset with the ability to translate financial information into business decisions. Clear communication, stakeholder management and team-development capability. Strong senior leadership presence with the confidence to challenge, advise and influence management. Ability to build structure and strong controls within a growing/start-up environment. High level of integrity, professional judgement and accountability.
