We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Security Operative Location: Abia Supervises: None Reports to: Security Supervisor / Chief Security Officer Department: Security Job Summary The role ensures a safe, secure, and welcoming environment that reflects the standards of a superior luxury hotel. The Security Operative performs routine patrols, monitors access points, screens persons and baggage where required, responds to emergencies, enforces hotel security policies, and supports the overall safety and security strategy of the hotel while delivering courteous and professional service to guests. The Security Operative is responsible for safeguarding the hotel's guests, employees, visitors, contractors, assets, facilities, and property by maintaining a visible security presence, preventing security breaches, controlling access, monitoring activities, and responding promptly to incidents. Key Responsibilities: Security Operations: Maintain a visible and professional security presence throughout the hotel. Ensure compliance with the hotel's security policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Report security concerns promptly to the Security Supervisor. Support the Chief Security Officer in maintaining a secure environment. Monitor assigned security posts and patrol areas diligently. Protect the lives, property, and assets of the hotel, guests, employees, and visitors. Patrol & Surveillance: Conduct regular patrols of guest floors, public areas, restaurants, bars, conference rooms, parking areas, offices, back-of-house areas, and hotel perimeter. Report maintenance and safety issues identified during patrols. Record patrol observations accurately in security logs. Monitor for suspicious persons, unattended items, safety hazards, and unusual activities. Inspect emergency exits, staircases, fire escapes, and restricted areas. Access Control: Prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas. Ensure visitor registration procedures are followed. Verify identification of employees, contractors, suppliers, and visitors where required. Control access to hotel entrances, exits, staff entrances, loading bays, and restricted areas. Direct guests and visitors courteously when necessary. Monitor vehicle entry and exit where applicable. Baggage & Vehicle Screening: Escalate suspicious findings immediately. Handle screening activities professionally and respectfully. Conduct baggage screening using approved screening equipment or manual inspection procedures where required. Inspect vehicles entering hotel premises in accordance with security procedures. Ensure prohibited items are not brought onto hotel premises. Guest Safety & Customer Service: Provide directions and assistance to guests and visitors. Support a positive guest experience: without compromising security. Maintain professionalism and discretion at all times. Assist elderly guests, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable individuals when required. Welcome guests courteously while maintaining security awareness. Respond promptly to guest requests related to safety and security. Incident Response: Notify supervisors immediately of significant incidents. Support evacuation procedures during emergencies. Prepare accurate incident reports. Assist in managing medical emergencies until appropriate responders arrive. Secure incident scenes and preserve evidence where necessary. Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, disturbances, accidents, and security incidents. Fire Safety & Emergency Preparedness: Inspect fire exits to ensure they remain unobstructed. Assist during fire drills and emergency evacuations. Report faulty fire safety equipment immediately. Operate basic fire-fighting equipment where trained. Identify potential fire hazards. Monitor compliance with fire safety procedures. Loss Prevention: Monitor suspicious activities and investigate where appropriate. Report inventory theft or property damage immediately. Protect guest property and hotel assets. Prevent theft, vandalism, fraud, and unauthorized removal of hotel property. Assist with investigations where required. Monitor loading and unloading activities. Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Support implementation of workplace safety procedures. Report unsafe conditions immediately. Observe occupational health and safety regulations. Ensure compliance with hotel security and safety policies. Promote a safe environment for guests and employees. Participate in health and safety awareness programmes. Documentation & Reporting: Record visitor entries and access control information. Submit daily shift reports to supervisors. Maintain accurate security occurrence books and patrol logs. Maintain confidentiality of security information. Prepare incident reports promptly and accurately. Report equipment faults promptly. Teamwork & Communication: Maintain professional relationships across departments. Attend daily security briefings. Support colleagues during busy operational periods. Communicate effectively during incidents and emergencies. Work closely with fellow security personnel and other hotel departments. Compliance & Continuous Improvement: Comply with all hotel policies, SOPs, and security procedures. Participate in mandatory security training programmes. Recommend improvements to security operations where appropriate. Uphold the hotel's standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity. Maintain knowledge of emergency response procedures. Qualifications & Requirements: Education: National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Security Management, Criminology, Public Administration, or a related field is an added advantage. Minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or equivalent. Experience: Experience: in a luxury hotel or hospitality establishment is an added advantage. Minimum of 2 years of experience: in hotel security, corporate security, law enforcement, military, private security, or a similar environment. Professional Certifications (Preferred) • Basic Security Operations Training: First Aid Certification. Fire Safety Training: Basic Occupational Health & Safety Certification. CCTV Operations Training (where applicable). Skills & Competencies: Teamwork. Security Awareness. Integrity and Confidentiality. Observation and Surveillance. Attention to Detail.
