We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Head of Department (General Ward) Location: Ibadan, Oyo Employment Type: Full-time Job Summary The successful candidate will provide strong clinical and administrative leadership within the General Ward, ensuring the delivery of safe, efficient, compassionate, and patient-centred nursing care while supervising staff and coordinating the day-to-day operations of the unit. St. Dominic Catholic Hospital is seeking an experienced, highly competent, and dedicated Registered Nurse to serve as the Head of Department (HOD), General Ward. Key Responsibilities: Ensure accurate, complete, and timely documentation of patient care and nursing activities. Prepare and monitor the departmental duty roster to ensure adequate staffing and proper coverage. Participate in hospital meetings, trainings, audits, and quality improvement initiatives. Provide effective clinical and administrative leadership for the General Ward. Monitor patients' conditions and ensure timely escalation of changes or emergencies to the appropriate medical personnel. Enforce professionalism, discipline, ethical practice, and confidentiality within the department. Monitor the use, maintenance, and availability of ward equipment and supplies. Conduct regular ward rounds and monitor compliance with nursing standards and hospital policies. Ensure proper administration of medications and treatments in accordance with prescriptions and hospital protocols. Promote effective communication and teamwork among staff and other hospital departments. Ensure that patients receive high-quality, safe, and compassionate nursing care. Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate the performance of nurses, nurse assistants, and other assigned staff. Serve as a link between the General Ward staff, Nursing Supervisor, Human Resources Department, and Management. Address patient and staff concerns appropriately and escalate unresolved matters to Management. Prepare and submit departmental reports as required. Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention and control measures. Identify staff training needs and support continuous professional development within the department. Required Qualifications Mandatory: Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.NSc.). Registered Nurse (RN) qualification. Qualification in Public Health. Valid and current Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria ( NMCN ) practising licence. Experience: Previous supervisory or HOD experience: is highly desirable. with 9 - 20 years of post-qualification nursing experience. Previous experience: in a General Ward, Medical/Surgical Ward, or similar clinical setting. Required Skills & Competencies: Strong administrative, organizational, and documentation skills. Strong commitment to teamwork, ethical practice, patient safety, and quality healthcare delivery. Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making abilities.
