We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Fleet HOD to manage the company's fleet operations and ensure the safe, reliable, efficient, and cost-effective movement of raw materials, finished products, equipment, and personnel. Key Responsibilities: Fleet Operations Management: Manage the day-to-day operations of the company's fleet and ensure vehicles are available, safe, and fit for purpose. Coordinate the timely movement of raw materials, finished products, equipment, and other goods. Plan vehicle allocation, dispatch, routing, and delivery schedules. Collaborate with logistics, warehouse, production, sales, and operations teams to meet transportation requirements. Monitor fleet utilisation and implement measures to improve efficiency and reduce downtime. Driver Management: Ensure all drivers hold valid licences and required documentation. Monitor attendance, performance, conduct, and compliance with company policies. Supervise and coordinate all fleet drivers and transport personnel. Prepare driver schedules, routes, and operating procedures. Organise regular training on defensive driving, road safety, vehicle handling, and company procedures. Vehicle Maintenance & Repairs: Ensure vehicles are serviced and maintained in line with manufacturer recommendations and company standards. Maintain accurate records of servicing, repairs, parts replacement, and maintenance expenditure. Manage relationships with approved workshops, mechanics, and service providers. Develop and enforce preventive maintenance schedules for all fleet vehicles. Monitor repairs, inspections, breakdowns, and roadworthiness of vehicles. Fuel & Cost Control: Monitor fuel consumption and investigate abnormal or excessive usage. Monitor expenditure on fuel, maintenance, tyres, repairs, insurance, licensing, and other fleet-related costs. Prepare regular fleet cost and performance reports for management. Identify opportunities to reduce operating costs without compromising safety or service delivery. Implement effective controls for fuel issuance, tracking, and accountability. Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Introduce measures to minimise accidents, misuse, breakdowns, and operational risks. Ensure compliance with applicable road transport, vehicle safety, and regulatory requirements. Maintain valid vehicle registration, insurance, roadworthiness certificates, and other required documentation. Investigate accidents, incidents, vehicle damage, and other fleet-related occurrences. Implement and enforce fleet safety policies and procedures. Fleet Tracking & Performance Monitoring: Track mileage, routes, delivery times, fuel usage, idle time, and vehicle utilisation. Review fleet performance data and recommend corrective actions where necessary. Maintain accurate records of trips, vehicle movements, mileage, fuel consumption, maintenance, and incidents. Monitor vehicle movements using GPS and fleet management systems where available. Logistics & Delivery Coordination: Optimise routes to reduce turnaround time, fuel consumption, and transportation costs. Coordinate vehicle availability for customer deliveries and transfers between locations. Monitor delivery performance and promptly resolve transportation-related challenges. Work closely with logistics and operations teams to support efficient product distribution. Fleet Administration & Reporting: Maintain an accurate and up-to-date fleet register covering vehicle details, documentation, maintenance history, and operational status. Prepare weekly and monthly fleet performance reports for management. Manage relationships with vehicle suppliers, workshops, insurers, tracking companies, and other fleet service providers. Support fleet budgeting, vehicle acquisition, disposal, replacement, and capacity planning. Track key fleet KPIs and provide practical recommendations for improvement. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Vehicle downtime and breakdown frequency Reduction in fleet operating costs Compliance with vehicle documentation and regulatory requirements: Fleet availability and utilisation rate Accuracy and completeness of fleet records Preventive maintenance compliance On-time delivery and turnaround time Driver safety and compliance performance Fuel consumption and cost efficiency Accident and incident frequency Required Qualifications & Experience: 5–8+ years of relevant experience: in fleet management, logistics, transportation, or operations, preferably within manufacturing, building materials, ceramics, construction products, or FMCG. Strong knowledge of fleet operations, vehicle maintenance, fuel control, and transportation logistics. Good understanding of Nigerian road transport regulations and vehicle documentation requirements. Experience: with GPS tracking or fleet management systems is an advantage. Strong analytical, reporting, organisational, coordination, and problem-solving skills. Bachelor's Degree or HND in Transport Management, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related discipline. Demonstrated experience: managing drivers and transport personnel. Proven experience: managing a sizeable fleet of trucks, commercial vehicles, or heavy-duty vehicles.
