ALIMA’s mission is to provide medical care in emergency situations or medical catastrophes. We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Laboratory Supervisor Location: Owo, Ondo Job Type: Full time Tasks & Responsibilities: Undertake additional duties as assigned to meet the specific needs of the clinical trial and VHF Laboratory. Adhere to quality control procedures to ensure the reliability and reproducibility of diagnostic and study-related results. Ensure proper sample and biological waste disposal according to acceptable safety standards. These tests will include but are not limited to nucleic acid extraction, polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), blood biochemistry and haematology. Reception of biological samples according to acceptable safety guidelines. Uploading of test results to the appropriate platform for prompt decision making by the medical team. Adhere to safety protocols to minimize the risk while handling infectious materials and biohazardous substances. Perform the scheduled maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment according to manufacturer’s specification as well as timely documentation. Perform Inventory of laboratory items and consumables in the VHF Laboratory. Report all relevant information linked to the activity in the laboratory to the line manager, especially the loss/damage of laboratory equipment. Timely documentation of test results performed with compliance to GCP guidelines. Conduct a set of laboratory tests on patient samples, ensuring accuracy, precision, and strict adherence to standard protocols. Supervise the routine monitoring and record the temperature of the laboratory space, fridges and freezers, documenting any alarms triggered by the temperature monitoring system promptly. Organize the production of sample aliquots and of their temporary storage on site in the biobank according to study specifications. Collaborate effectively with colleagues in analysis of RT-PCR test results to achieve research goals and objectives. Supervise the preparation of samples for pickups and shipments, ensuring proper packaging and compliance with transportation regulations. Keep organized the data collection system of laboratory results and all information generated from the analysis done. Requirement And Skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Working experiences in Ebola or Lassa Fever outbreak or other viral hemorrhagic fevers will be appreciated. Desirable working experience: with International medical NGO’s in developing countries. Strong understanding of scientific principles and laboratory techniques Literacy (MS Excel, Word, Outlook and Internet) Proven research experience: in a laboratory setting. Ability to work in close collaboration with MOH staff. Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team, in emergency and under pressure, to manage stress easily and result oriented. Bachelor' s degree in Medical Laboratory Science BMLS - (with specialization and experience: on Haematology & BGS, Chemical Pathology and Medical Microbiology Specialties) Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills Registered with Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Strong knowledge of PCR and PCR-related techniques and blood processing is necessary.
