We work in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Nepal and since November 2016, Street Child has been involved in the Humanitarian response in North East Nigeria. Street Child works in the fields of education, child protection and livelihoods, working to deliver sustainable solutions and create maximum impact. Our work combines counselling, family mediation, business support, school building, teacher training and child protection. We were a key player in the Ebola crisis and led the global response for children orphaned by Ebola in Sierra Leone and Liberia. We deliver all our programmes through local partners and, since 2008, together we have built/renovated over 200 schools and are now helping to educate over 40,000 young people. We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Education: Specialist Location: Lagos Role Purpose and Overview Working closely with a team of Learning Advisors, the Education: Specialist will support teachers to address learning loss, improve classroom practice, and enable all children—particularly the most vulnerable—to enrol, remain in, and succeed at school. The Education: Specialist will lead the design, delivery, and quality assurance of teaching and learning interventions to improve learning outcomes and retention for children in Lagos. The role will strengthen teacher capacity through high-quality training, coaching, mentoring, and performance monitoring, ensuring effective implementation of inclusive accelerated learning approaches. With a strong commitment to safeguarding and child protection, ensuring that all interventions promote safe, inclusive, and protective learning environments and comply with organisational safeguarding standards and best practice. Key Responsibilities: Instructional Design & Quality Assurance: Develop and adapt training modules, session plans, and teacher manuals in close consultation with the Lagos State Universal Basic Education: Board (LASUBEB). Design and oversee accelerated learning and street corner targeted instruction implementation, focusing on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy for out-of-school and in-school children. Ensure all instructional content is aligned with state and national curriculum standards and inclusive education: policies. Teacher Training & Coaching: Develop initial teacher training programme, followed by regular refresher sessions and on-the-job coaching. Introduce and monitor the use of targeted instruction in classrooms, grouping students by learning level and adapting instruction accordingly. Facilitate termly Communities of Practice meetings for teachers to share best practices and address challenges. Support lesson planning, classroom assessments, and instructional delivery. Establish and facilitate Communities of Practice (COP) for peer learning, classroom observation, and targeted feedback among teachers. Train and coach teachers to implement effective, high-impact teaching strategies, including explicit teaching, use of examples, and multiple exposures. Conduct regular student assessments using EGRA, EGMA and upper primary assessment tools. Inclusive Education: Embed inclusive pedagogies in classrooms, addressing language, gender, and disability needs. Collaborate with the Evidence and Evaluation Unit to use real-time data for continuous instructional improvement. Support the Evidence and Evaluation Unit in collecting, analysing, and using data to inform instructional improvements. Collaborate with Learning Managers and School Management Committees to institutionalise inclusive practices and infrastructure adaptations. Stakeholder Engagement: Provide accurate verbal and written reporting for impact investor and Lagos SUBEB. Work closely with partners, school leaders, community officers, and local education: authorities to ensure effective implementation and sustainability of interventions. Advocate for the adoption of proven instructional strategies within state systems. Requirements: Education: / Qualifications: Master's Degree in a relevant discipline. Degree or equivalent qualification in Education, Curriculum Development, International Development, Social Sciences, or a related field.
