The SHEC & Public Relations Manager will be responsible for implementing and managing project-wide Health, Safety, Environment, Community, and Public Relations programs in compliance with company standards, statutory requirements, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards, and international best practices. The successful candidate will play a key role in fostering a strong safety culture, maintaining positive community relations, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting sustainable mining operations. Key Responsibilities: Safety Culture & Community Engagement: Support community development projects and stakeholder consultations. Develop and implement HSE procedures, policies, and management systems. Build and maintain positive relationships with host communities and stakeholders. Coordinate community engagement activities and grievance management processes. Drive safety awareness initiatives including toolbox talks, inductions, and training programs. Compliance & Audits: Ensure compliance with company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. Conduct regular SHEC inspections and audits. Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual SHEC & PR reports. Coordinate external audits and regulatory inspections. Risk Management & Emergency Response: Develop and test emergency preparedness and response plans. Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses, including root cause analysis. Implement effective corrective and preventive actions. Lead hazard identification and risk assessment programs. Ensure functional firefighting and emergency response capabilities on site. Requirements: Education: & Certifications: Nigerian safety professional certifications will be considered an added advantage. Professional HSE certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, CSP, WSO, IEMA, or equivalent. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Administration, or a related discipline. Experience: in underground coal mining (adit/tunnel) is highly desirable. Open-pit mining experience: will also be considered. Experience: conducting HSE audits, incident investigations, risk assessments, and compliance evaluations. 6-10 years' experience: in Health, Safety, Environment, and Public Relations within mining or heavy industrial operations. Experience: managing community relations, stakeholder engagement, and community development projects. Proven experience: implementing and maintaining ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems. Skills & Competencies: Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Good presentation and training delivery skills. High level of integrity, professionalism, honesty, and commitment. Fluency in English and a local Kogi State dialect is highly desirable. Strong understanding of environmental and occupational health & safety management systems. Excellent reporting, documentation, and analytical skills. Why Join Us?
