Well Operations Supervisor – Rig in a Leading Exploration and Production Company - WTS Energy ⏲ Sep 9, 2026, 1:05 PM ⋕ View all Manufacturing & Production jobs WTS Energy - Our client, a leading exploration and production company in Nigeria, is recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Well Operations Supervisor – Rig Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers Employment Type: Full-time Job Summary To lead the safe, compliant, and efficient day-to-day execution of drilling, completion, workover, and intervention operations on the assigned rig by ensuring well barrier integrity, supervising critical operations, coordinating contractors, maintaining high-quality reporting and cost discipline, and driving continuous improvement to achieve well objectives, schedule, and AFE (Authorization for Expenditure) targets Key Responsibilities: Technical Design & Planning: Capture lessons learned and recommended program improvements through daily end- of-tour notes and after-action reviews to support continuous learning and performance optimization. Perform and document verification of well barrier envelopes before critical operations through testing and logging to ensure well integrity and regulatory compliance. Develop 24–72-hour rig execution plans from the approved well program and brief crews and service leads to ensure alignment on objectives, critical steps, and contingencies. Lead pre-job HAZID/JSA (Hazard Identification/Joint Safety Analysis) and pre-tour meetings, confirming permits, SIMOPS interfaces, and isolations to mitigate risks and enable safe execution. Validate equipment readiness and compatibility with program and interface requirements, escalating gaps early to prevent delays and ensure operational integrity. Operations monitoring and tracking: Monitor real-time drilling parameters (SPP- Standpipe Pressure, ECD – Equivalent Circulating Density, ROP-Rate of Penetration, WOB – Weight on Bit, torque, returns, gas, pit volumes) and respond proactively to anomalies to ensure early detection and mitigation of well control or downhole issues. Conduct thorough shift handovers with clear updates on status, risks, barriers, and the forward plan to ensure continuity, accountability, and safe execution between shifts. Maintain and submit accurate 24-hour reports in WellView, including time coding, NPT/TLR (Non-Productive Time/Total lost Returns), and consumables, to enable reliable data analysis and informed operational decisions. Track key rig performance indicators (e.g., connection times, tripping speed, flat time, circulation efficiency) and apply short interval control to identify inefficiencies and drive continuous performance improvement. Coordinate daily logistics with the shore base and maintain a 7-day lookahead for materials, verifying QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) of tubulars and tools to ensure timely delivery and operational readiness. Risk Management & Compliance: Enforce HSE standards and critical controls (PTW- Permit To Work, DROPS – Dropped Objects Prevention Scheme, lifting, electrical, confined space) by applying stop-work authority and field-level verification to prevent incidents and maintain a safe work environment. Manage SIMOPS (Simultaneous Operations) by coordinating isolations, communication protocols, and execution plans across production, construction, and intervention activities to prevent cross-functional hazards and operational conflicts. Ensure compliance with regulatory (NUPRC – Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, API/ISO – American Petroleum Institute/ International Organization for Standardization) and company standards by maintaining auditable documentation and closing out audit and inspection findings promptly to uphold license-to-operate and operational integrity. Lead incident and near-miss reporting using ICAM (Incident Cause Analysis Method) or TapRooT (Root Cause Analysis) investigations, implementing and verifying corrective/ preventive actions to eliminate root causes and prevent recurrence. Maintain well control readiness by conducting planned drills, updating kill sheets, and verifying BOP (Blowout Preventer) function tests and accumulator pressure to ensure rapid response capability in case of an influx or kick. Budgeting, Cost & Reporting: Maintain accurate tallies of equipment, tubulars, chemicals, cement, and waste, and reconcile inventories at job closeout to ensure material accountability and cost control. Forecast daily costs and material consumption, flagging AFE variances early with root causes and mitigation plans to support proactive budget management. Submit daily cost snapshots and weekly summaries with analysis of performance drivers and cost-saving opportunities to support transparent financial reporting and informed decision-making. Control daily spread costs by reducing invisible lost time, optimizing task sequencing, and performing quality checks to avoid rework and maximize operational efficiency. Validate third-party service tickets, rental days, and call-outs against actual usage, endorsing only accurate records to ensure cost accountability and prevent billing discrepancies. Team Leadership and Management: Coordinate on-site contractor performance reviews and verify certification, maintenance, and calibration of critical equipment to ensure service quality and regulatory compliance. Set clear expectations and assign responsibilities: before critical tasks, verifying understanding and directly supervising execution to ensure procedural discipline and safe, effective operations. Coach and evaluate supervisors, drill crew, and service leads on safety, procedural compliance, and technical skills by using a competency matrix and structured training plans (e.g., IWCF – International Well Control Forum, BOSIET – Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training, H2S – Safety Controls) to build capability and ensure readiness. Lead post-job debriefs and contribute to end-of-well reports by capturing lessons learned and improvement opportunities to drive performance and knowledge transfer across teams. Foster a culture of open communication and mutual respect through effective toolbox talks, positive reinforcement, and timely correction of at-risk behaviors to strengthen team cohesion and safety ownership.
