Dental Therapist Job Type Full Time Qualification BA/BSc/HND Experience: 1 - 3 years Location Abuja Job Field Medical / Healthcare Position Summary The Dental Therapist is a licensed mid-level dental practitioner who plays a key role in primary oral healthcare. This role focuses heavily on preventive care, most notably performing scaling and polishing (professional cleaning)—alongside teeth whitening, and patient oral health education. Key Responsibilities: & Duties Preventive & Periodontal Care (Core Duty): Perform routine Scaling and Polishing (Prophylaxis) to remove calculus, tartar, and surface stains. Conduct deep cleaning and root planning to prevent and treat early-stage gum disease (gingivitis and mild periodontitis). Apply topical fluoride, fissure sealants, and desensitizing agents to prevent decay. Restorative & Clinical Procedures: Prepare cavity preparations and place direct fillings (composite, glass ionomer, amalgam) on children and adults. Administer local anesthesia (infiltrations and nerve blocks) safely. Take intraoral dental radiographs (X-rays) as prescribed or needed for treatment. Patient Education: & Health Promotion: Educate patients on correct brushing, flossing, and dietary habits to maintain oral health. Provide post-treatment care instructions for scaling and polishing procedures. Clinic & Record Management: Accurately chart treatment plans, clinical findings, and procedure notes in the clinic\'s software. Adhere strictly to infection control, sterilization, and cross-contamination safety guidelines. Qualifications & Requirements: Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Dental Therapy from an accredited institution.
