The role ensures the availability and reliability of mechanical systems and drilling equipment required for safe and efficient rig operations. The Chief Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment on PMT7's land drilling rig. The Chief Mechanic is responsible for implementing preventive and corrective maintenance activities in accordance with the Company's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), OEM recommendations, approved maintenance procedures, and applicable HSE requirements. Roles and Responsibilities: Mechanical Operations & Maintenance: Ensures mechanical equipment is maintained in accordance with OEM recommendations and approved maintenance procedures. Troubleshoots and repairs faulty mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic rig equipment and tools. Maintains and repairs mechanical components of drilling equipment, including the Driller's Console, Top Drive System, drawworks, mud pumps, drilling equipment auxiliaries, and related equipment. Coordinates mechanical maintenance and repair activities with the Maintenance Supervisor, Rig Manager, and other relevant rig personnel. Conducts routine inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment on the rig. Reports technical problems, equipment limitations, and mechanical defects that may affect the safe or efficient operation of the rig. Maintains and repairs engine cooling water, lubrication oil, and fuel systems. Operates, maintains, and repairs power plant equipment and associated mechanical systems. Preventive Maintenance & CMMS: Provides technical information required for the development and improvement of preventive maintenance routines. Implements preventive maintenance activities in accordance with the Company's Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), approved maintenance schedules, and OEM recommendations. Provides maintenance information required for planning, reporting, and budget preparation. Ensures scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance activities are completed within required timelines. Ensures relevant mechanical equipment is appropriately captured within the CMMS with applicable operating manuals, maintenance manuals, and spare parts information. Tracks and supports the close-out of outstanding mechanical maintenance actions and recommendations arising from inspections, audits, equipment failures, and technical reviews. Maintains accurate and timely records of inspections, maintenance activities, equipment failures, repairs, and corrective actions. Equipment Reliability & Troubleshooting: Recommends improvements to maintenance practices and equipment reliability where required. Communicates significant equipment failures and breakdown information through the appropriate reporting line for onshore maintenance support. Monitors the condition and performance of critical mechanical equipment to identify potential failures before they affect operations. Troubleshoots mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults and determines appropriate corrective actions. Supports root cause analysis of recurring equipment failures and breakdowns. Supports planning and coordination of major operational activities, including rig moves and equipment mobilization. Spare Parts & Inventory Management Maintains adequate levels of critical mechanical spares and initiates requisitions in a timely manner. Supports the identification and technical specification of replacement mechanical components and equipment. Ensures mechanical spare parts, tools, and materials are appropriately stored, preserved, and controlled. Monitors mechanical spare parts, consumables, tools, and critical equipment requirements: necessary to support rig operations. Provides information required for maintenance and spare parts planning. HSE & Operational Compliance: Maintains high standards of housekeeping within mechanical workshops and assigned work areas. Demonstrates safety leadership and ensures assigned personnel comply with Company HSE requirements. Supports the implementation and close-out of recommendations arising from client inspections, regulatory inspections, internal audits, and rig management reviews. Complies with and enforces Permit to Work (PTW), isolation procedures, and other applicable safe systems of work. Ensures third-party mechanical equipment brought onto the rig is fit for purpose, appropriately certified, installed, and maintained. Reports incidents, unsafe conditions, potential hazards, equipment defects, and abnormal operating conditions through the appropriate reporting line. Participates actively in safety meetings, emergency drills, inspections, audits, and other HSE activities. Ensures mechanical maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with PMT7 HSE requirements, approved procedures, and applicable regulatory standards. Participates in Job Safety Analysis (JSA), toolbox talks, pre-job meetings, and other risk assessment activities. Team Supervision & Development: Coaches, mentors, and develops maintenance personnel through structured on-the-job training and practical supervision. Supervises and coordinates the activities of Mechanics, Motormen, and other personnel assigned to mechanical maintenance activities. Ensures personnel under supervision possess the required competence, training, and certification for their assigned responsibilities. Supports performance reviews and provides feedback on the performance, competency, and development requirements: of assigned personnel. Monitors the validity of required personal and subordinate certifications and training in line with the applicable training matrix. Maintains appropriate discipline and ensures compliance with Company policies, procedures, and rig requirements. Allocates work and ensures assigned maintenance tasks are completed safely, correctly, and within required timelines. Supervises crew members participating in applicable On-the-Job Training (OJT) programmes.
