The role ensures that all road alignments, excavation, filling, sub-base, base course, and compaction activities are executed according to engineering specifications, project drawings, safety standards, and strict quality control measures. The Road / Earthwork Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and directing on-site earthmoving, road construction, and civil earthwork operations. Responsibilities: Field Operations & Site Execution: Direct and supervise day-to-day earthwork and road construction activities, including clearing, grubbing, excavation, embankment filling, grading, sub-grade preparation, and paving support. Coordinate the deployment, movement, and optimal utilization of heavy equipment (such as excavators, bulldozers, graders, wheel loaders, compactors/rollers, and water tankers). Ensure that construction lines, levels, grades, and slopes strictly conform to approved engineering drawings and surveyor markings. Quality Control & Material Compliance: Prevent the use of substandard fill materials and ensure proper aggregate selection for sub-base and base course layers. Monitor soil moisture levels, compaction density, and layer thickness during earth-filling and sub-base operations to meet engineering test standards. Coordinate closely with the Quality Control (QC) and materials testing team to conduct prompt field density and soil classification tests. Safety, Health, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance: Maintain hazard-free traffic management layouts on site, ensuring safe movement for heavy trucks, equipment, and personnel. Enforce strict compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) guidelines across all active earthwork zones. Reporting and Documentation: Maintain a comprehensive daily site log detailing weather conditions, equipment deployment, ongoing earthwork activities, material deliveries, and workforce attendance. Report daily production outputs, milestones, and operational bottlenecks to the Project Manager or Site Engineer. Requirements: Education: Ordinary National Diploma (OND), Higher National Diploma (HND), or Trade Test/Certificate in Civil Engineering, Construction, or a related technical field. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of hands-on site supervision experience: in road construction, civil earthworks, asphalt paving, or large-scale infrastructure projects. Skills & Proficiencies: Deep technical understanding of heavy machinery operations (graders, rollers, excavators). Excellent physical fitness and resilience for demanding field and weather conditions. Strong leadership, conflict resolution, and crew management skills. Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings, profiles, and survey pegs.
