Job Overview Experience: Senior Level Job Type Full time Work Mode On site Education: Bachelor Category Banking Job Description The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a senior executive responsible for the day-to-day operational leadership and management of the organisation. The COO works in close collaboration with the Managing Director/CEO to translate the company's strategic objectives into operational excellence by ensuring that all business activities (spanning consumer lending, commercial finance, leasing, debt factoring, and other permissible functions) are executed efficiently, compliantly, and profitably. The COO bears direct accountability for business performance, regulatory compliance, risk management, technology and process optimisation, and the delivery of financial services to individual consumers and to industrial, commercial, and agricultural enterprises, in line with the company's licensed scope of operations. Requirements: A minimum of a Bachelor's degree (Second Class Upper or equivalent) in Finance, Actuarial Science, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, Law, or a related discipline from a recognised institution. A postgraduate degree (MBA, MSc Finance, or equivalent) is strongly preferred. Professional certification is required (acceptable qualifications include ACA/ACCA, CFA, CIBN, CIPM, or equivalent relevant designations). 6 – 10 years of progressive experience: in financial services, with at least 3 years at senior management level. Demonstrable experience: within a CBN-regulated institution, preferably a finance company, microfinance bank, commercial bank, or development finance institution. Hands-on experience: in credit management, lending operations, loan portfolio analysis, asset quality monitoring, or financial products delivery is essential. Proven track record of managing CBN regulatory relationships, filing statutory returns, and navigating BOFIA compliance obligations. Proficiency in financial reporting, management accounting, and balance sheet management within an NBFI environment. Familiarity with IFRS 9 impairment models, lending product structuring, and treasury operations relevant to a finance house. Competence in operational process design, technology integration, and data-driven performance management. High ethical standards and personal integrity, with a clean record free of regulatory sanctions, convictions, or adverse findings that are consistent with CBN's fit-and-proper persons requirements. Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic, compliance-intensive environment. Results-oriented with a strong commercial mindset balanced by sound risk discipline. Responsibilities: Operations & Business Execution Oversee the end-to-end operational delivery of all permissible finance company services as designated by the CBN. Drive operational efficiency across all business units by ensuring service delivery standards meet both customer expectations and regulatory benchmarks. Supervise credit origination, processing, disbursement, and recovery functions to ensure that credit operations are sound, transparent, and policy-driven. Ensure timely redemption of all matured obligations to customers. Regulatory Compliance Ensure the company's operations remain strictly within its licensed scope. Oversee the preparation and timely filing of all mandatory periodic returns on financial performance, asset quality, and regulatory compliance to the regulators. Coordinate responses to CBN on-site inspections, off-site examinations, and regulatory queries. Ensure compliance with all CBN directives, circulars, and policy guidelines. Financial Performance Monitor the company's financial position to ensure continued compliance with the CBN minimum capital requirement and capital adequacy ratios at all times. Oversee the preparation of management accounts. Work with the CFO to manage liquidity, funding structures, interest rate risk, and borrowing activities from the investing public within permissible limits. Corporate Governance Champion a culture of transparency, accountability, and ethical behaviour throughout the organisation. Establish and maintain robust internal control frameworks, risk management policies, and operational risk registers. Ensure all officers and directors promptly declare conflicts of interest, and that no officer benefits: improperly from any advance, or credit facility from the company. Liaise with the Board Audit Committee and external auditors to ensure audit findings are resolved promptly and reported accurately. Human Capital Provide leadership and direction to departmental heads across credit, operations, compliance, technology, finance, and customer service. Design and implement staff training, performance management, and management succession frameworks. Promote a high-performance culture with clearly defined accountability structures and key performance indicators across all teams. Strategic Planning and Business Development Collaborate with the MD/CEO and Board in developing and executing the company's strategic plan. Identify opportunities to deepen service delivery to underserved MSMEs and retail customers. Drive digital transformation initiatives. Stakeholder Management Serve as a key interface with the regulators and institutional stakeholders. Maintain constructive relationships with banks, institutional investors, and funding partners to support the company's liability generation and liquidity management.
