The Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate and complete financial records, supporting timely financial reporting, ensuring compliance with applicable tax and accounting requirements, and providing reliable financial information to support management decisions. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where transactions span multiple retail locations, brands, vendors and business functions. You should be someone who is highly analytical, organised and meticulous, with the ability to identify discrepancies, reconcile accounts and follow financial processes through to completion. Key Responsibilities: Financial Records & Accounting Operations: Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and accounting ledgers. Ensure all financial transactions are properly captured, classified and supported by appropriate documentation. Prepare and review journal entries and supporting schedules. Maintain proper documentation and filing of accounting records. Monitor transactions across multiple locations and ensure appropriate accounting treatment. Identify and investigate discrepancies, unusual transactions and accounting variances. Bank & Account Reconciliations: Perform regular bank reconciliations for company accounts. Investigate and resolve reconciling items promptly. Reconcile customer, vendor and other relevant balance sheet accounts. Ensure all direct bank transactions, outstanding items and adjustments are appropriately reflected in the accounting records. Escalate unresolved discrepancies and unusual movements to the appropriate supervisor. Accounts Payable & Receivable: Manage accounts payable and receivable processes. Review vendor invoices for accuracy, completeness and appropriate approvals before processing. Monitor supplier balances and payment schedules. Track customer receivables and outstanding balances. Ensure appropriate documentation and accounting treatment for vendor and customer transactions. Support the timely processing of approved payments. Tax & Statutory Compliance: Prepare and support the filing of applicable statutory returns, including VAT, WHT and other relevant tax obligations. Ensure appropriate tax deductions are applied to qualifying transactions. Maintain accurate schedules and supporting documentation for tax filings. Liaise with relevant internal and external stakeholders on tax and compliance matters. Keep abreast of changes in applicable tax and accounting regulations. Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly financial reports and accounting schedules. Support month-end and year-end closing activities. Assist with preparation of management accounts and financial analysis. Provide accurate financial information and reports within agreed timelines. Analyse financial data and highlight significant variances, trends or issues requiring management attention. Budgeting & Financial Analysis: Support the budgeting and forecasting process. Assist with monitoring actual performance against approved budgets. Prepare variance analyses and investigate significant deviations. Provide financial data and insights to support operational and management decisions. Audit & Internal Controls: Support internal and external audit processes. Provide requested schedules, reconciliations and supporting documentation. Assist with responding to audit queries and implementing agreed recommendations. Maintain appropriate financial controls and ensure adherence to established accounting procedures. Identify opportunities to strengthen financial processes and minimise errors or control gaps. Retail & Multi-Location Accounting: Support accounting activities relating to the company's multiple retail locations. Reconcile store-related transactions and ensure completeness of sales and expense records. Work closely with retail, operations, procurement, inventory and other teams to resolve accounting issues. Ensure financial information from different locations is accurately consolidated and reported. Other Finance Responsibilities: Perform other finance and accounting duties as assigned. Contribute to process improvement initiatives within the Finance function. Maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive financial information. Required Profile & Qualifications Education: B.Sc./HND qualification in Accounting or a closely related accounting discipline. ICAN/ACCA Professional Level or Chartered qualification is a strong advantage. Minimum of 3 years' relevant post-qualification experience: in an Accountant or similar role. Experience: in a multi-location organisation is highly desirable. Experience: in retail, FMCG, hospitality, luxury goods, beauty/cosmetics or a similar transaction-intensive industry will be an advantage. Technical Competencies: The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong working knowledge of: Financial accounting principles and practices. Bank and balance sheet reconciliations. Accounts payable and receivable. VAT, WHT and statutory tax processes. Month-end and year-end closing. Budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis. Financial reporting. Audit preparation and support. Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems. Advanced Excel proficiency is highly desirable, including the ability to work with functions such as XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, SUMIFS and other data-analysis tools.
