Job Title: Nurse Location: Damboa, Borno Job type: Full-time (Onsite) Main Responsibilities: Under the Technical supervision of the Program Manager and the management of the Medical Supervisor, the Nurse will provide high-quality nursing care in the CTU, ensuring effective triage, patient monitoring, treatment support, infection prevention and control (IPC), health education, and data reporting in line with MdM and national cholera treatment protocols. Task Description Supervision of CTU and ORP: The primary role of this position is to supervise all SMOH staff in the CTU and ORP Daily data collection and report to the medical supervisor Ensure correct use of guidelines and clinical procedures The nurse will also conduct the following tasks: Patient Triage and Initial: Receive and triage all patients presenting at the CTU. Measure and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, weight where applicable). Classify patients based on dehydration status (cholera case classification under protocol). Assign patient identification numbers and ensure proper registration. Immediately refer severe or emergency cases to the Medical Doctor. Support the Medical Doctor in cholera patient care and monitoring. Cholera Case Management Support: Administer oral rehydration solution (ORS) and assist in IV fluid management under supervision. Monitor patients’ clinical status and report change promptly. Ensure correct application of cholera treatment protocols. Maintain close observation of patients in treatment and recovery areas. Nursing Procedures and Clinical Tasks: Perform nursing procedures according to MdM protocols, including: Administration of injections as prescribed Wound care and dressing Rapid diagnostic tests (e.g., malaria RDT, RBS, HB etc where indicated) Ensure cleaning, disinfection, and sterilization of medical equipment daily. Maintain safe handling and disposal of medical waste. Infection Prevention and Control (IPC): Strictly adhere to IPC standards in the CTU (hand hygiene, PPE, chlorine use). Ensure proper patient isolation to prevent cross-infection. Maintain cleanliness of treatment and observation areas. Participate in daily chlorine preparation and environmental decontamination activities Health Education: and Promotion: Conduct health education: sessions in waiting and observation areas. Educate patients and caregivers on: Cholera prevention (safe water, sanitation, hygiene) Importance of early treatment and ORS use Handwashing practices Danger signs and when to seek care Ensure caregivers understand treatment instructions and discharge advice. Data Collection, Reporting & Surveillance: Record all patient data accurately in CTU registers and forms. Participate in daily data compilation (admissions, discharges, deaths, referrals). Assist in weekly data entry and epidemiological reporting. Report unusual trends or alerts (e.g., increased admissions or deaths) to the supervisor. CTU Setup, Logistics & Inventory Support: Participate in setup and organization of CTU structures (triage, ORS corner, IV area, recovery area). Ensure availability and proper handling of nursing supplies and consumables. Assist in daily and weekly stock counts of CTU materials. Support loading/unloading and organization of medical supplies when required Coordination and Meetings: Participate in daily briefings and MdM internal meetings (medical, security, coordination). Submit weekly activity reports to the Medical Doctor or CTU Supervisor. Participate in all relevant trainings and refresher sessions. Others: Establish good relationship with the different stakeholders to have a smooth implementation of MdM project Be flexible in performing his/her duties to ensure that beneficiaries are getting good quality services Inform immediately the security focal point in case of any security problem in the field Perform other additional duties on request of the Program Manager or Medical Supervisor Develop network within other health INGOs and NNGOs Essential Qualifications Education: / Qualifications: Diploma/Bachelors Degree in Nursing Other health related certification is of added value. Professional Experience: At least 3 years relevant professional experience: in a similar position in humanitarian sector or supervision of health facilities. Experience: in emergency response, outbreak management, and clinical care. Experience: managing multidisciplinary teams Technical Skills: Strong communication and report-writing abilities. Good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Personal Skills: Culturally sensitive, respectful, and adaptable. Ability to work under pressure, manage priorities and make rapid, informed decisions. Flexibility and readiness for irregular working hours during emergency response. Languages: Fluency in English required. Knowledge of local language is an added value.
