The Carpenter / Mason Foreman is responsible for supervising, coordinating, and leading all carpentry (formwork, shuttering,and structural woodwork) and masonry (bricklaying, block-laying, plastering, screeding, and stonework) operations on site. The role ensures that all structural and architectural building elements are executed with precision, structural stability, high aesthetic quality, and strict adherence to architectural drawings and specifications. Responsibilities: Technical Supervision of Carpentry & Formwork Operations: Oversee the safe erection and dismantling of timber or steel scaffolding and temporary structural supports in compliance with safety standards. Supervise the fabrication, erection, alignment, and dismantling of formwork (shuttering) for foundations, columns, beams, slabs, staircases, and retaining walls. Ensure formwork is rigid, properly plumbed, leveled, and oiled to withstand concrete pressure and produce smooth, defect-free concrete finishes. Technical Supervision of Masonry & Finishing Operations: Direct and supervise all brickwork, block-laying (sandcrete/concrete blocks), partitioning, wall rendering, plastering, screeding, and tiling. Oversee door and window frame installations, lintel casting, and structural opening preparations. Ensure proper mortar mix ratios, verticality (plumb lines), horizontal alignment (spirit level), and uniform joint thicknesses across all walls. Workforce Leadership & Task Allocation: Direct, coordinate, and supervise the daily activities of carpenters, masons, steel fixers' assistants, mixers, and general laborers on site. Set daily production targets, allocate work crews effectively, and ensure trade activities align seamlessly with the master construction schedule. Monitor workforce productivity, attendance, and adherence to high standards of craftsmanship. Material and Equipment Resource Management: Monitor the consumption and stock levels of construction materials (timber, plywood, nails, cement, sand, granite, blocks, form-oil, and scaffolding props) to prevent wastage or shortages. Inspect and maintain hand tools and power equipment (such as circular saws, planers, mixers, spirit levels, and trowels), ensuring immediate reporting of faults to the workshop. Coordinate with the storekeeper and site engineer regarding material deliveries, offloading, and secure stock storage. Safety, Health, and Environmental (HSE) Compliance: Maintain safe working platforms, clear access routes, and hazard-free zones around active construction levels. Enforce strict compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) protocols during formwork erection, scaffolding, lifting, and masonry work. Reporting and Documentation: Maintain an accurate daily log of carpentry and masonry progress, material consumption, and workforce deployment. Report daily production milestones, material shortages, or site bottlenecks to the Site Engineer or Project Manager.
