We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Business Developer Location: Lagos Industry: Hospitality Reports to: General Manager / Managing Director Direct Reports: None Main Function The Business Developer will serve as a key link between the hospitality business and its target markets, including corporate organizations, government institutions, event planners, travel agencies, tour operators, diplomatic organizations, social groups, and individual clients. The role requires a commercially driven professional with strong knowledge of the Lagos hospitality market, excellent networking and negotiation skills, and a proven ability to convert relationships and opportunities into measurable revenue. The role involves identifying and converting new business opportunities, developing strong relationships with corporate clients and key stakeholders, increasing occupancy and utilization of the property's facilities, and creating new revenue streams across accommodation, food and beverage, events, conferences, meetings, leisure, and other hospitality services. The Business Developer is responsible for driving business growth, revenue generation, client acquisition, strategic partnerships, and market expansion for the hospitality business. Role Responsibilities: Business Development & Revenue Growth: Prepare and implement business development plans aligned with the organization's overall commercial objectives. Develop and execute business development strategies to achieve revenue and growth targets. Prospect for new clients through networking, referrals, cold outreach, industry events, digital channels, and strategic introductions. Convert qualified leads into paying customers and long-term accounts. Develop initiatives that increase property utilization during low-demand periods. Identify new business opportunities across corporate, leisure, events, hospitality, and institutional markets. Identify opportunities to increase revenue from rooms, restaurants, bars, conference facilities, events, banqueting, catering, leisure facilities, and other hospitality offerings. Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of prospective clients and business opportunities. Achieve agreed monthly, quarterly, and annual business development targets. Corporate & Institutional Sales: Conduct client visits and presentations to promote the property's services and facilities. Build relationships with companies, government institutions, NGOs, diplomatic organizations, embassies, financial institutions, schools, and other relevant organizations. Identify, target, and acquire corporate accounts within Lagos and surrounding business markets. Negotiate corporate rates, contracts, service agreements, and partnership arrangements within approved company policies. Monitor corporate account performance and identify opportunities for increased business. Develop corporate accommodation, meeting, conference, catering, and event packages. Maintain regular contact with existing corporate clients to encourage repeat business and strengthen account relationships. Events, Conferences & Hospitality Sales: Develop and promote attractive event and hospitality packages. Generate business for conferences, meetings, weddings, social events, corporate events, private functions, and other hospitality-related activities. Identify opportunities for group bookings, retreats, seminars, workshops, and corporate functions. Coordinate with Operations, Food & Beverage, Front Office, Events, and Marketing teams to ensure successful delivery of contracted services. Respond promptly to enquiries, prepare proposals, and follow up on quotations to secure bookings. Develop recurring partnerships with event organizers and corporate event planners. Build relationships with event planners, wedding planners, event centers, travel agencies, tour operators, production companies, and entertainment businesses. Strategic Partnerships: Represent the organization at business networking events, trade fairs, exhibitions, hospitality forums, and industry functions. Evaluate partnership opportunities based on commercial value, strategic relevance, and potential return on investment. Develop relationships with travel agencies, online travel agencies (OTAs), tour operators, corporate travel managers, event companies, lifestyle brands, and relevant hospitality partners. Maintain a strong professional network within the Lagos business and hospitality community. Identify and establish mutually beneficial partnerships that can generate business and increase brand visibility. Explore partnership opportunities with organizations, associations, clubs, and professional networks. Proposal, Negotiation & Business Conversion: Maintain accurate records of sales activities, proposals, negotiations, and conversion outcomes. Prepare professional proposals, quotations, presentations, and commercial offers for prospective clients. Identify barriers to conversion and develop strategies to close deals. Follow up systematically on proposals and outstanding opportunities. Lead commercial negotiations within approved pricing and authority limits. Ensure agreed commercial terms are properly documented and communicated to relevant departments. Revenue & Performance Management: Ensure business development activities deliver measurable commercial value. Monitor business development performance against agreed targets and KPIs. Track lead generation, conversion rates, revenue generated, client acquisition, account growth, and repeat business. Analyze revenue performance across different customer segments and business channels. Recommend corrective actions where performance falls below target. Prepare regular sales and business development reports for management. Contribute to revenue forecasting and business planning. Brand Representation & Stakeholder Engagement: Promote the organization's brand, services, values, and market positioning. Attend relevant industry, corporate, tourism, networking, and community events. Maintain a professional image consistent with the organization's hospitality standards. Represent the hospitality business professionally when engaging with clients, partners, industry bodies, and external stakeholders. Internal Collaboration: Work closely with the General Manager, Sales & Marketing, Front Office, Food & Beverage, Events, Finance, and Operations teams. Qualifications and Requirements: Education: & Certifications: Professional certification in Sales, Marketing, Business Development, or Hospitality is an added advantage. Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Hospitality Management, Tourism, Sales, or a related field. Experience: Previous experience: within the hospitality, hotel, events, tourism, restaurant, leisure, or service industry is strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of the Lagos business and hospitality market is highly desirable. Demonstrable experience: acquiring corporate clients and developing strategic partnerships. 3–5 years of experience: in Business Development, Sales, Corporate Sales, Hospitality Sales, or a related commercial role.
