We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Project Engineer Location: Lagos Job Summrary The role ensures that project works are delivered in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, budget, and agreed timelines. The Project Engineer is responsible for the technical coordination, planning, supervision, and execution of construction activities on assigned projects. Key Responsibilities: Project Planning & Execution: Coordinate daily site activities to ensure smooth and timely project execution. Review project drawings, specifications, BOQs, contracts, method statements, and work programmes. Develop and monitor work plans and schedules for assigned construction activities. Assist the Project Manager in planning, coordinating, and executing construction activities. Recommend practical solutions to technical and operational challenges. Monitor project progress against approved schedules and identify potential delays. Ensure construction activities are executed in accordance with approved designs and project requirements. Technical Coordination: Raise Requests for Information (RFIs) where clarification is required. Ensure proper coordination between different engineering disciplines. Review shop drawings, technical submissions, method statements, and material samples. Resolve technical issues within assigned authority and escalate complex matters to the Project Manager. Review and interpret architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical drawings as applicable to the project. Coordinate technical activities among consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and site teams. Site Supervision: Monitor the work of subcontractors, artisans, technicians, and site operatives. Ensure proper housekeeping and efficient utilisation of site resources. Supervise construction activities and ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications. Identify defective or substandard work and ensure corrective action is taken. Verify completed works before requesting inspections and approvals. Monitor manpower, equipment, and material deployment on site. Ensure proper sequencing of construction activities. Quality Assurance & Control: Monitor workmanship and ensure rework is minimised. Identify and report non-conforming works and ensure timely rectification. Coordinate with the QA/QC team on inspections and testing. Review Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), checklists, and quality procedures. Ensure construction activities comply with approved quality standards and specifications. Ensure approved materials and construction methods are used throughout the project. Support the preparation and maintenance of quality records. Health, Safety & Environmental Management: Ensure appropriate permits and safe systems of work are implemented. Report hazards, incidents, near misses, and unsafe practices promptly. Ensure all construction activities comply with company and project HSE requirements. Stop or escalate unsafe activities where necessary. Participate in toolbox meetings, safety inspections, risk assessments, and site safety meetings. Promote safe working practices among employees, contractors, and subcontractors. Cost & Resource Management: Monitor the efficient use of construction materials, labour, tools, equipment, and other resources. Monitor subcontractor activities against agreed scope and work programmes. Support the Project Manager and Quantity Surveyor in monitoring project costs. Verify quantities and completed works where required. Identify potential variations and additional works and report them promptly. Minimise material wastage and unnecessary project costs. Materials & Procurement Coordination; Ensure proper storage and handling of construction materials. Prepare material requirements: for assigned construction activities. Report shortages, damaged materials, or specification discrepancies. Verify delivered materials against approved specifications and quantities. Coordinate with Procurement and Stores to ensure timely availability of materials. Project Documentation & Reporting: Support preparation of as-built drawings and project close-out documentation. Assist in maintaining the project drawing register and document control system. Maintain accurate records of site activities, inspections, approvals, and technical issues. Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on project activities and progress. Maintain records of RFIs, drawings, method statements, inspection requests, and approvals. Track project progress and provide regular updates to the Project Manager. Contractor & Stakeholder Management: Ensure stakeholder concerns affecting project delivery are promptly escalated and addressed. Attend project coordination and technical meetings. Liaise with clients, consultants, and other stakeholders on technical matters as assigned. Monitor subcontractor performance and compliance with project requirements. Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure timely execution of works. Testing, Commissioning & Handover: Support preparation of project handover documentation. Monitor commissioning activities where applicable. Coordinate inspection and testing of completed works. Ensure defects and outstanding works are closed within agreed timelines. Participate in final inspection and project close-out activities. Prepare and track snagging and punch-list items. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Percentage of project activities completed within approved cost parameters. Percentage of assigned works completed within the approved project schedule. Client/consultant satisfaction with assigned project deliverables. Percentage reduction in construction defects and rework. Timely resolution of RFIs and technical issues. Timely submission of daily, weekly, and monthly project reports. Compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and construction standards. Efficient utilisation of labour, materials, equipment, and other resources. Quality and completeness of project documentation. Timely closure of snags and non-conformities. Compliance with HSE requirements: and reduction in site incidents. Subcontractor performance against agreed work programmes. Qualifications & Experience: Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, BOQs, and construction documents. Good knowledge of construction methods, project planning, quality control, and HSE requirements. Proven experience: working on building, civil, infrastructure, industrial, or commercial construction projects. Professional certification or membership of relevant professional bodies such as COREN/NSE is an added advantage. Proficiency in AutoCAD and relevant project management/construction software. Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience: in construction/project execution. Bachelor's Degree or HND in Civil Engineering, Building Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline.
