Project Director (Upstream & Midstream Gas Development) in a Leading Exploration & Production Company ⏲ Aug 12, 2026, 7:19 AM ⋕ View all Manufacturing & Production jobs We are a Leading Exploration & Production Company with active operatorship of prolific oil blocks and oil and gas assests in Nigeria's Niger Delats area. We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Project Director (Upstream & Midstream Gas Development) Location: Lagos (with travel as required) Employment Type: Full-time Role Purpose The Project Director leads the core project team, coordinates all workstreams, and serves as the primary point of accountability to senior leadership on programme delivery, risk and decision-making. The Project Director holds overall accountability for actively developing a portfolio of upstream and midstream gas projects, leading a cross-functional team through subsurface and drilling and completion, corporate structuring, commercial and financing strategy and regulatory alignments. Key Responsibilities: Lead and coordinate all workstreams including subsurface, drilling and completion, commercial and financing, regulatory and organizational development. Represent the project in senior stakeholder engagement, including senior leadership and the Board, government and regulatory bodies, financiers, and technical and commercial partners. Own the master programme schedule, budget, and risk and issue register; escalate material risks and decisions to senior leadership in a timely manner. Hold overall accountability for programme delivery against an agreed roadmap to final investment decision (FID) and into execution. Build, lead and develop the core project team, including direct oversight of workstream leads. Establish and maintain programme governance — steering committee structure, reporting cadence, and decision rights. Required Experience: & Qualifications A demonstrated track record leading major upstream project developments from concept through FID and into execution — ideally including greenfield or major brownfield development. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Geosciences or a related technical discipline; an advanced degree or relevant executive qualification is an advantage. At least 20 years in the upstream oil & gas industry, with substantive, hands-on experience: spanning the full upstream value chain: subsurface data acquisition and interpretation, reserves and resource evaluation, drilling/completion engineering and operations, well completions, and production and facilities. Experience: managing multi-disciplinary teams and a broad set of external stakeholders, including partners, regulators, financiers and contractors. Prior experience: operating at a senior leadership level (e.g., Project Director, VP Projects, General Manager, or Asset/Country Manager), specifically in the development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects, with direct accountability to a Board or Investment Committee. Advantageous: Experience: operating within the Nigerian upstream regulatory and operating environment. Experience: raising or securing project finance for a major capital project. Key Competencies: Strong executive presence; comfortable and effective engaging senior leadership and the Board, government officials, and international financiers and partners. Programme and risk management discipline appropriate to a major capital project. Deep technical credibility across subsurface, drilling and completions — able to engage as a peer with technical specialists, not simply manage process from a distance. Decisive and structured, with the ability to operate at pace under time pressure and against a compressed timeline. High personal integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to operate with a degree of independence while remaining closely aligned to leadership direction. How to Apply Interested and qualified candidates should send their Curriculum Vitae, quoting relevant references and scanned passport-size photograph to: [email protected] using Job Title as the subject of the mail.
