Read more about this company Utilities Technician (Mechanical) Job Type Full Time Qualification BA/BSc/HND , OND , Vocational Experience: 3 - 5 years Location Ogun City Agbara Job Field Engineering / Technical JOB PURPOSE This role exists to ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation and maintenance of mechanical utilities equipment at Agbara Factory. The Utilities Technician (Mechanical) will support maximum plant availability through planned preventive maintenance, prompt fault diagnosis, hands-on repair of rotating and static equipment, and basic mechatronics support for utility systems. You’ll be part of a team that keeps essential manufacturing services running safely and sustainably, enabling our brands to thrive while protecting people, assets and the environment. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Execute planned preventive maintenance schedules for utilities equipment including boilers, chillers, compressed air systems, cooling towers, pumps and HVAC/DHU units. Carry out reactive maintenance and fault diagnosis on mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems to restore equipment to service within agreed timeframes. Perform mechanical overhauls on rotating equipment such as pumps, compressors, fans, blowers and gearboxes, including bearing checks, alignment and balancing activities. Support condition-based monitoring activities including vibration checks, bearing inspections, shaft alignment, mechanical seal replacement and pump performance checks. Assist in boiler, chiller and compressed air operations, including routine checks, dryer maintenance, separator/filter element changes and logging of operating parameters. Operate and maintain water supply infrastructure including boreholes, submersible pumps and raw water treatment equipment. Diagnosing faults on VSD-driven equipment and support basic PLC/HMI checks, sensor calibration and instrumentation loop testing where required. Maintain accurate maintenance records in CMMS/SAP PM or equivalent, including work order updates, parts usage and downtime reporting. Work strictly within the site Permit to Work system and carry out risk assessments including LOTO, hot work and confined space controls before high-risk tasks. Participate in RCA investigations, support corrective actions, and ensure work is executed in line with Unilever SHE standards, statutory requirements: and local regulations. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Trade Test Certificate / City & Guilds from an accredited Industrial Technical School in Mechanical, Mechatronics or a related trade. OND or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related technical discipline 3 to 5 years of hands-on maintenance experience: in a manufacturing, FMCG or process plant environment. Practical experience: with rotating equipment including pumps, compressors, fans and associated mechanical drive systems and electric motors. Familiarity with Permit to Work systems, safe isolation procedures and basic maintenance documentation. Ability to work safely in a site-based, shift-operated environment and comply with PPE, safety and environmental requirements. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS OND or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related technical discipline. OEM or trade training on Atlas Copco compressed air systems, Carrier/equivalent chillers or refrigeration systems, Thermax/Cochran Steam Boiler. Experienced electrical/instrumentation skills, including ability to read P&IDs or wiring diagrams, perform sensor checks, and use SAP PM or another CMMS platform.
