We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Cost Engineer (Procurement) Location: Apapa, Lagos Job Summary The Costing Engineer is responsible for the internal costing of all Bills of Quantities (BOQs) relating to engineering services across the organization. The role ensures that costs submitted by vendors and contractors are accurately reviewed, benchmarked and justified before approval, safeguarding value for money on all engineering-related expenditure. Job Responsibilities: Independently justify or challenge costs submitted by vendors, providing well-supported cost benchmarks and estimates. Provide timely costing support for planned works, including major projects and Turnaround Maintenance (TAM) activities. Collaborate with the Engineering, Maintenance, and Procurement teams to validate technical scope prior to costing. Take ownership of internal costing for all Bills of Quantities (BOQs) submitted for engineering services across the organization. Prepare clear, well-documented costing reports and recommendations to support procurement decision-making and vendor negotiations. Review, interpret, and analyze BOQs submitted by vendors and contractors to verify scope, quantities, and pricing assumptions. Flag cost variances, unusual pricing patterns, or scope inconsistencies to relevant stakeholders. Maintain an organized record of costing history for engineering services to support future benchmarking Develop and maintain detailed cost models and estimation templates in Microsoft Excel for engineering and maintenance works. Compare vendor pricing against historical costs, market rates, and engineering standards to identify discrepancies or inflated pricing. Support continuous improvement of costing tools, templates, and internal costing standards. Qualifications Demonstrated experience: reviewing and costing Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for engineering or maintenance works. Prior exposure to Turnaround Maintenance (TAM) costing will be an added advantage. Bachelor’s Degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil or related discipline), Quantity Surveying, or a related field. 3-5 years' relevant experience: in costing, cost engineering, quantity surveying, procurement or a similar function, preferably within a manufacturing, industrial, or engineering environment. Membership or Certification from recognized professional bodies such as AACE, PMI, ACEN, COREN is an added advantage. Skills and Competencies: Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, particularly during major maintenance events. Ability to independently justify, challenge, and defend costing positions with data and sound reasoning. Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and engaging vendors and internal stakeholders. Good understanding of engineering costing principles, market pricing, and cost estimation techniques. High level of integrity and objectivity, given the role's independent cost-verification function. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, cost models, and data analysis, is essential. Strong ability to interpret technical engineering documents and BOQs.
