Original source description
The Operations & Risk Officer safeguards the quality of the company’s receivables book and the integrity of its daily operations. Reporting to the CCO/COO, the role sits at the intersection of credit and counterparty risk assessment, transaction operations, and internal controls. Its central mandate is to assess, monitor and manage the creditworthiness of anchors (buyers) and the risk embedded in the invoices financed on the platform, ensuring that every facility extended is supported by sound analysis, documented evidence, and appropriate limits. Key Responsibilities: Credit & Counterparty (Anchor/Buyer) Risk — primary mandate: Anchor assessment: Conduct end-to-end credit assessments of prospective and existing anchors, classifying each by type (public company, private with no formal agreement, private with formal agreement) and applying the appropriate assessment track. Scoring & reporting: Score anchors across the platform's risk dimensions, payment behaviour, financial strength, industry/sector risk, ownership & governance, and regulatory standing, producing weighted scores, risk tiers, and evidenced credit reports suitable for EXCO and external financiers. Limit setting: Recommend and calibrate exposure limits, tenors, and maximum single-invoice sizes using payables volume, concentration ceilings, and existing facility exposure. Knock-out screening: Apply hard knock-out screening (adverse judgements, regulatory sanctions, overdue obligations, negative net worth) and document decline triggers clearly. Evidence & verification: Analyse purchase orders, invoices, vendor bank statements, credit bureau reports (CRC / FirstCentral), and CAC records, including mandatory charges-register searches, to evidence every credit decision. Portfolio monitoring: Monitor the live portfolio for early-warning signals: payment delays, rising DPO, disputes, concentration build-up, and deterioration in anchor or sector conditions; escalate promptly to the CCO/COO. Operations: Transaction ops: Support daily transaction operations across invoice onboarding, verification, disbursement, and collections, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to agreed workflows. Reconciliation: Reconcile payments received against outstanding invoices and financier positions, investigating and resolving discrepancies. Record integrity: Maintain accurate, auditable records of anchors, vendors, facilities, and limits within the company’s systems. Controls, Compliance & Reporting Internal controls: Maintain and enforce internal controls across the credit and operations workflow, identifying control gaps and recommending improvements. Compliance: Support KYC/AML, CAC verification, PEP screening, and NDPA-compliant handling of counterparty information. Risk MI: Maintain the risk register and produce periodic risk and operations management information (MI) and dashboards for the CCO/COO and EXCO. Continuous improvement: Contribute to policy, procedure, and scorecard refinement as the platform, book, and regulatory environment evolve. Key Deliverables & Success Measures Timely, well-evidenced anchor credit assessments with limit recommendations that withstand EXCO and financier scrutiny. A monitored portfolio with early-warning signals surfaced and escalated before they become losses. Clean reconciliations and accurate, audit-ready operational records. Reliable, on-cadence risk and operations MI to leadership. Reduced control exceptions and demonstrable improvement in process discipline over time. Requirements: Qualifications & Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or a related discipline; a professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CFA, or risk certification) is an advantage. 3-6 years of experience: in credit analysis, risk management, or operations within banking, fintech, factoring, or financial services. Demonstrated experience: assessing corporate or SME credit and interpreting financial statements, bank statements, and credit bureau reports. Familiarity with the Nigerian regulatory and commercial environment (CAC, CBN, SEC, NDPA 2023, credit bureaux) is strongly preferred. Skills & Attributes: Strong analytical and numerical skills, with sound judgement under incomplete information. Meticulous attention to detail and a disciplined, evidence-based approach to decisions. Clear, structured written communication, able to produce reports credible to executives and external financiers. High integrity, sound ethics, and comfort escalating concerns. Proficiency with spreadsheets and financial/operational tools; comfort working on a digital platform. Ability to balance risk discipline with commercial pragmatism and a fast-moving operating pace. N500,000 - N700,000 monthly gross. Method of Application Interested and qualified candidates should send their CV to: [email protected] using the Job Position as the subject of the email.
