The General Manager will have overall responsibility for the hotel's day-to-day operations, financial performance, guest experience, employee performance, service standards, business development, and compliance. The successful candidate will be expected to drive operational excellence while positioning the hotel as a leading hospitality destination in Aba. Responsibilities: Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for all hotel departments and operations. Develop and implement business strategies and operational plans to achieve the hotel's objectives. Take overall responsibility for the hotel's financial performance, profitability, and revenue growth. Prepare, manage, and monitor annual budgets, operating expenses, and departmental financial targets. Monitor hotel revenue, occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, departmental performance, and other key performance indicators. Develop strategies to improve room occupancy, food and beverage revenue, events, conferences, and other hotel income streams. Ensure consistently high standards of guest service, hospitality, and customer satisfaction. Establish and maintain operational standards, policies, procedures, and service quality benchmarks. Lead and motivate the hotel's management team and ensure effective coordination across all departments. Review departmental performance and hold Heads of Department accountable for agreed targets and standards. Oversee recruitment, onboarding, training, development, performance management, and retention of hotel employees. Promote a strong culture of professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and excellent guest service. Monitor compliance with hotel policies, statutory requirements, health and safety standards, and industry best practices. Ensure effective risk management, security, emergency preparedness, and business continuity procedures. Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of hotel facilities, rooms, restaurants, rooftop bar, conference facilities, gym, and other guest areas. Work closely with the F&B, Rooms Division, Engineering, Security, Finance, HR, Sales, and other departments to ensure seamless operations. Drive sales and marketing initiatives in collaboration with the relevant teams to increase hotel visibility and revenue. Build and maintain strong relationships with corporate clients, travel partners, event organisers, VIP guests, suppliers, community stakeholders, and other business partners. Represent the hotel at business meetings, industry events, corporate engagements, and relevant external functions. Monitor competitor activity, market trends, pricing, and customer preferences and recommend appropriate business strategies. Oversee major events, conferences, VIP functions, and other high-profile hotel activities. Ensure proper inventory, procurement, cost control, and asset management across the hotel. Review management reports and operational data and use insights to improve efficiency and profitability. Handle escalated guest complaints and sensitive operational issues professionally and promptly. Conduct regular management meetings and operational reviews. Prepare and present periodic performance reports to the hotel's ownership/management. Identify opportunities for operational improvement, new revenue streams, and service innovation. Ensure the hotel consistently delivers the standards expected of a superior luxury property. Key Performance Areas The successful candidate will be evaluated on: Hotel occupancy and revenue growth Profitability and cost management Guest satisfaction and service quality Food and beverage performance Employee productivity and retention Operational efficiency Sales and business development Compliance and risk management Property standards and maintenance Overall achievement of hotel business objectives Requirements: B.Sc. / HND in Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline. Minimum of 8–10 years of progressive experience: in hotel operations, with substantial experience: in senior management. Previous experience: as a General Manager, Hotel Manager, Operations Manager, or equivalent senior leadership position in a reputable hotel is highly desirable. Strong understanding of hotel operations, including Rooms Division, Food & Beverage, Events, Engineering, Security, Finance, and Guest Relations. Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, control costs, increase revenue, and improve profitability. Strong commercial and business development acumen. Excellent leadership, people-management, negotiation, and decision-making skills. Strong knowledge of hospitality service standards and guest experience: management. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to lead a large, multidisciplinary team and manage multiple priorities effectively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and hotel management/PMS systems. High level of integrity, professionalism, accountability, and emotional intelligence. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, public holidays, and during major hotel events when required. Membership of a recognised hospitality or professional management body will be an added advantage.
