We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Mechanical Technician Location: Ikeja, Lagos Employment Type: Full-time Industry: Food Manufacturing Job Summary The successful candidate will ensure maximum equipment availability, minimum downtime, safe operations, and compliance with food safety standards. We are seeking a skilled and hands-on Mechanical Technician to maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve production and utility equipment in a food manufacturing environment. Key Responsibilities: Troubleshoot and repair conveyors, mixers, pumps, packaging machines, gearboxes, motors, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, and other mechanical equipment. Ensure all maintenance activities comply with GMP, HACCP, health, safety, hygiene, and applicable ISO requirements. Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production and utility equipment. Maintain accurate PM records, work orders, breakdown reports, and spare-parts records. Diagnose equipment failures and respond promptly to breakdowns to minimize production downtime. Work closely with Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to ensure smooth operations. Participate in major breakdowns, equipment improvement projects, audits, and other maintenance activities as assigned. Train operators on basic equipment care and troubleshooting. Install, dismantle, align, calibrate, and modify machinery and equipment. Perform basic welding, fabrication, fitting, and mechanical workshop activities. Identify recurring equipment problems and recommend solutions to improve reliability and efficiency. Key Performance Indicators MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) Contribution to equipment improvement projects Safety and GMP/HACCP compliance Timely completion of maintenance work orders The ideal candidate is technically strong, hands-on, safety-conscious, proactive, and able to work effectively under pressure. Candidates with proven experience: maintaining industrial production machinery, particularly in food, beverage, FMCG, or packaging environments, are strongly encouraged to apply. Equipment availability and reliability MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) Effective resolution of recurring equipment failures Ideal Candidate Preventive maintenance completion rate Teamwork, responsiveness, and time management Reduction in unplanned breakdowns Key Requirements: Strong problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and attention to detail. Practical experience: in preventive maintenance and mechanical troubleshooting. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, gearboxes, pumps, conveyors, bearings, belts, chains, and drive systems. Welding/fabrication skills are an advantage. Ability to work shifts, weekends, and in cold/humid manufacturing environments. 2 – 5 years of hands-on mechanical maintenance experience, preferably in food manufacturing, FMCG, beverage, or a similar industrial environment.
