Disaster Preparedness Officer – Livelihood Support Job Type Full Time Qualification BA/BSc/HND Experience: 3 years Location Borno Job Field NGO/Non-Profit Role Description The Disaster Preparedness Officer – Livelihood Support is a full-time, on-site role based in Nigeria. This position focuses on strengthening community preparedness and resilience by integrating disaster risk reduction into livelihood programs. Day-to-day tasks include conducting field assessments, mapping risks and vulnerabilities, and supporting the design and implementation of livelihood activities that help households better withstand shocks. The officer coordinates with community groups, local authorities, and partner organizations to plan and deliver trainings, simulations, and awareness campaigns on disaster preparedness and safe livelihood practices. Responsibilities: also include monitoring project activities, collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports, and ensuring that interventions follow organizational standards, donor requirements, and safeguarding policies. The role involves regular visits to project locations, engagement with diverse stakeholders, and collaboration with program and MEAL staff to adjust activities based on learning and feedback. Qualifications Experience: in disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, or humanitarian response, preferably combined with livelihood or resilience programming. Skills in field assessment, data collection, basic analysis, and reporting to inform program design and decision-making. Ability to engage and train community members, facilitate workshops, and support participatory planning processes. Strong organizational skills for planning activities, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, and meeting project deadlines. Clear written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of local languages in Nigeria is an advantage. Demonstrated ability to work on-site in rural or crisis-affected areas, with cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse communities. Familiarity with humanitarian principles, safeguarding, and basic security protocols in field operations. Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, development studies, disaster management, agriculture, or a related field; relevant professional certifications are an added benefit. Prior experience: with NGOs or international organizations and understanding of donor-funded project requirements: is desirable. Proficiency with common office and data tools (e.g., Word, Excel, mobile data collection applications) and willingness to learn new systems.
