The Senior Editor will work closely with authors, writers, content developers, graphic designers, typesetters and production teams to ensure publications are accurate, clear, engaging, age-appropriate and consistent with the company’s editorial and publishing standards. We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Editor to join our editorial team. The successful candidate will oversee the editing and quality assurance of educational books, textbooks, workbooks, teachers’ guides and other learning materials from manuscript development through final production. Key Responsibilities: Review and edit educational manuscripts, textbooks, workbooks, teachers’ guides and other learning materials. Work closely with designers and production teams during typesetting and page layout. Maintain accurate records of manuscripts, revisions and editorial decisions. Review proofs and final page layouts and ensure corrections are properly effected before printing. Maintain high editorial and quality-control standards across publications. Edit content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, clarity, accuracy, consistency and appropriate style. Coordinate manuscript reviews and monitor editorial workflows. Provide constructive editorial feedback and guide writers through revisions. Track editorial schedules and ensure that projects meet production deadlines. Ensure content is suitable for the intended age group, class level and learning objectives. Work with authors and content developers to improve manuscripts and resolve editorial issues. Participate in editorial planning, meetings and publication development projects. Fact-check information, references, statistics, examples and citations. Develop and maintain editorial standards and style guidelines. Review manuscripts for structure, sequence, readability and instructional effectiveness. Person Specification Qualifications: A relevant postgraduate qualification or professional certification is an added advantage. Bachelor’s Degree in English Language, Mass Communication, Linguistics, Literature, Journalism, Publishing Studies, Communication Arts or a related discipline. Minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience: in editing, educational publishing or a related field. Demonstrable experience: editing educational materials, textbooks, workbooks or other learning resources will be a strong advantage. Experience: working with authors, writers, designers and production teams is desirable. Skills and Competencies: Good understanding of the educational publishing process. Excellent knowledge of grammar, punctuation, style and editorial conventions. Excellent command of written and spoken English. Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines. Excellent organisational and time-management skills. Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Strong copy-editing and proofreading skills. Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and CorelDraw; knowledge of Adobe InDesign is an advantage.
