We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Lead, Environmental Health & Safety Location: Lagos Role Overview This is a hands-on operational role focused on preventing workplace incidents and improving the overall working environment through effective management of fire safety, incident response, contractor safety, environmental impact, ergonomics, PPE, road safety, and regulatory compliance. The HSE Manager will work closely with Moniepoint’s ESG Officer by implementing operational controls, and driving enterprise HSE initiatives, while the ESG Officer retains strategy, governance and policy ownership. The role is focused on occupational and physical workplace safety and environmental compliance for Moniepoint’s facilities and operations, and sits within the Facilities & Administration function. The Lead, Environmental Health & Safety is responsible for implementing and managing Moniepoint's Occupational Health, Safety, Environmental & Social, Fire Safety, and Emergency Preparedness programmes across offices, warehouses, repair centres, and branches. Key Responsibilities: Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) Programme: Maintain HSE oversight for outsourced facility management providers. Conduct periodic safety audits of contractors, subcontractors, and outsourced facility management providers engaged on construction/renovation projects, facilities work and logistics covering safety certifications, PPE compliance, and site conditions, and track their corrective actions to closure. Maintain the OHS risk register and drive timely closure of corrective actions. Monthly reporting of HSE performance metrics to Executive Management. Develop, implement and continually improve the Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS) across Moniepoint offices, warehouses, POS repair centres and branches, in alignment with ISO 45001. Conduct hazard-specific risk assessments for POS repair centre operations (ESD, operations (manual handling, racking and storage safety, loading bay traffic). Develop annual HSE objectives and performance targets. Operate a permit-to-work system for higher-risk contractor activity during branch/warehouse projects and developments. Conduct routine HSE walk-throughs, safety audits, inspections, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) across offices, warehouses, existing sites and new branches Fire Safety & Emergency Preparedness: Maintain and coordinate implementation of the Emergency Response Plan across offices, warehouses, repair centres, and other operational locations. Provide HSE input into Business Continuity and Operational Resilience planning. Coordinate fire drills and ensure emergency response equipment is present, functional and inspected on schedule at every Moniepoint location. Incident & Accident Management: Maintain the incident and accident investigation procedure and register for physical, facilities-related incidents at Moniepoint locations. Carry out root-cause investigations for workplace and facilities-related incidents and track corrective actions to closure. Ensure serious incidents are escalated to Management and the ESG Officer in accordance with the Incident Escalation Procedure. Share lessons learned from investigations with employees and relevant contractors. Analyse incident/accident data for trends across Moniepoint locations and use findings to prioritise prevention efforts rather than reacting incident-by-incident. PPE, Ergonomics & Facility Safety: Conduct safety due diligence and a pre-operational safety audit on any new office, warehouse or branch before handing over and opening for us, and support the ESG Officer in conducting Environmental & Social due diligence on such sites where required. Work with the Facilities and Procurement teams to ensure new site selection and construction/renovation criteria include fire and life-safety requirements.. Ensure appropriate PPE is provided for workers at the POS Repair Centers, Work with the Security team to provide input to facility-level security risk assessments where they intersect with physical workplace safety. Set and monitor office ergonomics standards such as workstation setup, posture, and break guidance. warehouses, and other relevant locations. Road Safety: Provide support to develop and implement road safety programmes for employees and Monitor and log environmental incidents and non-compliance events at Moniepoint facilities as part of the environmental compliance programme Maintain statutory occupational health and safety records and coordinate renewal of applicable workplace safety permits and certifications, and statutory inspections Ensure compliance with applicable occupational health and safety legislation, including the Labour Act, Factories Act, NSITF requirements, Fire Service regulations, and other applicable workplace safety requirements. Feed OHSE compliance status into the ESG risk and compliance register maintained by the ESG Officer. Provide facility-level environmental data (electricity consumption, waste volumes, water use) already collected through Facilities & Administration operations, to inform both operational decision-making and the ESG Officer's enterprise environmental reporting. Business Relationship Managers and field agents, including manual handling of POS hardware and lone-working exposure at merchant premises. Provide support to assess and mitigate delivery- and installation-specific risks for OHS & Environmental Compliance, Permitting and Reporting contractors undertaking work-related travel. Training and Capacity Building: Design and deliver relevant OHS training such as first aid, firefighting, fire warden and evacuation marshal training sufficient to cover Moniepoints locations, offices, repair centres, and warehouses. Coordinate delivery of road safety and personnel safety training with the Learning and Development, Facilities, and Security teams. Qualifications and Requirements: Experience: 4–6 years of progressive experience: in an HSE/OHS role, with a proven track record managing multi-site operations, warehouses, corporate real estate, or financial services infrastructure. Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of Nigerian workplace safety laws (Labour Act OHS provisions, Factories Act); working familiarity with IFC Performance Standards 2 and 4 OHS requirements: is an advantage.Skills: Exceptional risk assessment, root-cause analysis, Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), fire safety and first-aid training delivery, ergonomics assessment, stakeholder management, and data-driven reporting capabilities. Certifications: Professional certification is required (e.g., NEBOSH IGC, ISO 45001 Lead Implementer/Auditor, CSP, and/or equivalent membership in a recognized safety body). Travel: Willingness and ability to travel extensively across Nigeria to audit and support regional operational sites. Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
