We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Junior Legal Associate Location: Chevron, Lekki - Lagos Employment Type: Full-time Role Summary The Junior Legal Associate provides day-to-day legal support to the firm, assisting with legal research, drafting, documentation, filing, and submission of legal documents on behalf of the business. The ideal candidate is diligent, organized, a fast learner, and comfortable handling documentation, deadlines, and follow-ups with external parties under supervision. The role includes following up with external legal counsel on outsourced matters, supporting litigation and real estate transactions, and assisting senior associates with client service and compliance obligations. Key Responsibilities: Legal Research & Advisory Support: Summarize case law, statutes, and regulations for use in ongoing matters. Assist in preparing legal opinions and advisory notes for review by senior associates. Track legal and regulatory developments relevant to the firm and its clients. Conduct legal research on corporate law, property law, litigation, and compliance matters as assigned. Drafting & Documentation: Draft and prepare first drafts of contracts, tenancy agreements, MOUs, NDAs, letters, and legal correspondence for review. Assist in preparing memoranda, legal notices, and board resolutions. Maintain and update legal templates and the documentation library. Proofread and format legal documents for accuracy, clarity, and compliance. Submission of Legal Documents on Behalf of the Business: Obtain and file acknowledgment copies, receipts, and proof of submission for every filing. Maintain an accurate log of all documents submitted, including recipient, date, and purpose. Track submission dates, reference numbers, and expected response timelines. Ensure all submissions are complete, accurately filed, and delivered within required deadlines. Submit legal documents, filings, and correspondence to courts, regulatory bodies, land registries, CAC, and other agencies on behalf of the firm and its clients. Follow up on the status of submitted documents and escalate delays to the supervising associate. External Legal Counsel Follow-Up: Coordinate the exchange of documents and information between the firm and external counsel. Flag delayed responses or missed timelines from external counsel to the Senior Legal Associate. Maintain and update records of briefs issued, correspondence, and counsel responses. Follow up with external legal counsel, chambers, and partner law firms on the status of briefs and outsourced matters. Obtain regular updates on filings, hearings, judgments, and next steps from external counsel. Assist in compiling counsel invoices, fee notes, and supporting documentation for review. Real Estate & Property Transaction Support: Support due diligence, title verification, and land documentation processes. Liaise with land registries, surveyors, and other stakeholders as directed. Assist with document preparation for acquisition, sale, lease, and transfer transactions. Litigation Support: Maintain litigation calendars, deadlines, and hearing schedules. Support the coordination of litigation, arbitration, and mediation matters. Assist in preparing court processes, affidavits, briefs, and case summaries. Attend court sessions and client meetings with senior associates where required. Compliance & Administrative Support: Support CAC filings, statutory returns, and company secretarial administration. Maintain client files, confidential records, and internal filing systems. Submit weekly activity and task reports to the Senior Legal Associate. Schedule meetings, consultations, and appointments as needed. Requirements: Candidates should possess a B.Sc Degree with 3 - 4 years experience. Key Competencies: Good written and verbal communication Sound understanding of legal drafting and research principles Good organizational and follow-up skills Discretion, integrity, and confidentiality Strong attention to detail and accuracy Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple filings Willingness to learn and work under supervision.
