We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Backend Engineer, NodeJS Location: Lekki, Lagos Job type: Full-time About the Role As a NodeJS Backend Engineer, you will work on developing, scaling, and maintaining high-performance backend services that power our cutting-edge payment systems. Key Responsibilities: Researching existing and new product features and areas for improvement Implementation, testing, delivery and maintenance of product features (new and existing) Creating technical documentation for feature implementations Providing support for product features (when needed) Ensure personal information of customers, employees, and other individuals the company conducts business with is processed and protected in line with applicable data privacy policies, privacy laws, and global best practices Perform any other duties that may be assigned Assist with system design and architectural discussions Commitment to creating and maintaining secure coding practices and standards Required Competency and Skillset to be a Waver Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript for the backend (Node.js) [TypeScript is a plus] Good working knowledge of version control systems (Git) workflows (branching models, pull requests, code reviews). Clear verbal and written technical communication skills. A good demonstration of object-oriented or functional analysis and design skills. Good problem-solving abilities and analytical thinking. Proficient with relational databases (MySQL) and ORMs (Sequelize). Ability to take ownership of tasks from spec to deployment 5+ years of professional backend software development experience: using Node.js in a production environment. Proficient with non-relational databases (Mongo, Redis) and ODMs (Mongoose). Good understanding of data structures, algorithms and performance design. Deep understanding of RESTful API design principles, authentication mechanisms (JWT, OAuth2), and security best practices. Good understanding of automated testing practices (unit testing, integration testing) and frameworks (Jest, Mocha). Nice to Have: Good research skills Good time management skills Experience: with Event-Driven Architectures or message brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ, BullMQ).
