We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Accountant Requisition ID: 2026201156 Location: Maiduguri, Borno Employment Type: Full-time Duties and Responsibilities: Develop budgets, including staff time allocations. Support the Finance Manager in preparing reports for submission to donors. Create, update, and maintain financial spreadsheets. Prepare fiscal year budgets and enter them into FHI’s accounting software program. Monitor periodic expenditures of projects by analyzing financial data and producing periodic and ad hoc reports. Function as support for processing cash advances, retirements, petty cash management and refunds made in favor of FHI 360 UK Nigeria. Assist the Finance Manager in monitoring subproject budgets in accordance with approved work plan activities. Work with the Finance Manager - Finance to provide support with the accounting workflow in the review and audit of Country Office and subrecipient reports for reimbursement of expenditures. Performs other duties as assigned. Work with the Finance Manager - Finance to support the preparation of monthly and annual financial reports, including financial status of subprojects account activities with accompanying bank documentation and receipts. Working with team leads to problems associated with monthly expenditures and life-of projects budgets. Assist the Finance Manager - Finance to ensure the accurate keeping of all books of accounts for the project, including checking accounts, equipment and supply registers and all accounting records. Qualifications and Requirements: Familiarity with USAID-funded programs and non-governmental organizations in Nigeria is an advantage. Demonstrated success in multicultural environments is an advantage. Experience: must reflect the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above. CPA, ACA, ICAN, or recognized equivalents are an advantage. BS / BA Degree in Accounting, Finance and Business Administration or its recognized equivalent, and 5 years relevant experience. Minimum of 3 years’ experience: in accounting related to international development programs. Or MS/MA degree in Accounting, Finance and Business Administration or its recognized equivalent, and 3 years relevant experience. Knowledge, skills and abilities: Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and handle pressure situations. Routine coordination with Northeast Project employees and consultants, on-site and in the field. Knowledge of generally accepted accounting, budgeting and fiscal control theory and practices. Relevant software skills to include automated accounting software and database spreadsheets and Management Information Systems. Must exhibit high levels of professionalism, integrity and ethical values at all times. Handle financial and quantitative information with accuracy and precision; resourceful in gathering, verifying, and analyzing financial data. Must have report writing skills and be able to communicate with impact. Ability to work with others and to develop and maintain compatibility among project staff, subcontractors, and recipients of assistance. Ability to travel a minimum of 25%. Work independently with initiative to manage high volume workflow. Report on variances and status on regular basis. Time management skills, both in planning and organizing work to meet deadlines. Demonstrated analytical skills in the interpretation of budgetary, financial and related management information. Budget development skills with multi funding sources and general ledger skills.
