We are seeking an accomplished Head, Financial Controller & Budgeting to own the financial stewardship, reporting integrity, and budget governance of our Holdings Group. As custodian of the group's numbers, the role holder will drive financial discipline, cost governance, and operational accountability across all subsidiaries, serving as a key liaison between finance and business unit leadership. Reporting to the Group Executive Director, Finance, the successful candidate will ensure financial statements are accurate, timely, and compliant with IFRS and applicable Nigerian regulations, while leading the group-wide budgeting, planning, and performance management cycle across our steel manufacturing, mining, and energy business units. Key Responsibilities: Oversee the group's CAPEX planning, approval, and tracking, ensuring proposals are supported by rigorous NPV, IRR, and payback analysis, monitoring execution against budget, and leading post-completion CAPEX reviews. Lead, mentor, and develop the financial control and budgeting team, standardizing reporting and budgeting processes across subsidiary finance teams and fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement. Oversee cost accounting and cost control for the group's manufacturing and operational entities, implementing standard costing for steel production and mining, analyzing production costs and efficiency variances, and partnering with supply chain and engineering on cost reduction. Challenge budget assumptions at subsidiary level for alignment with group strategy and operational capacity, and coordinate quarterly rolling re-forecasts as business conditions evolve. Prepare and present monthly management accounts to the GED-F and Group Executive Committee, and coordinate preparation of annual financial statements for external audit and statutory filing. Lead the preparation of the group's consolidated monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS and Nigerian GAAP, overseeing reporting consistency across steel, mining, and energy subsidiaries and managing the consolidation process, including intercompany eliminations, minority interests, and FX translation. Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast across all entities, preparing variance analysis (volume, price, mix, efficiency) and tracking KPIs including EBITDA, operating margins, cost per tonne, and ROCE, while supporting subsidiary finance teams on corrective action plans. Serve as finance's lead on ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or equivalent), driving automation of reporting and consolidation processes and ensuring data integrity between operational systems and the general ledger. Serve as the primary contact for external auditors during interim and year-end audits, coordinating audit deliverables across the group. Oversee the group's fixed asset register, depreciation policy, periodic physical verification, and accounting for disposals, impairments, write-offs, and revaluations in line with IAS 16, IAS 36, and IFRS 5. Design and continuously strengthen the group's internal financial control framework, conducting regular control reviews, ensuring robust month-end/year-end close, and maintaining the accounting policies manual and chart of accounts. Lead the group's annual budgeting process from inception to Board approval, developing the medium-term (3-5 year) financial plan and enforcing a structured budget calendar across all subsidiaries. Oversee overhead allocation methodologies across shared service functions, ensuring equitable and transparent cost distribution to business units. Requirements: Experience: coordinating with Big Four or leading mid-tier audit firms during statutory audits is required. ACA (ICAN) or ACCA is mandatory; CIMA is an added advantage given the management accounting dimension of the role. Experience: in the budgeting, planning, and performance management cycle within a multi-entity industrial or resources group. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline (minimum Second Class Upper); Master's degree or MBA is an advantage. Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP FI/CO, Oracle Financials, or equivalent) and advanced Excel/financial modelling skills. Proven experience: managing group financial consolidations across multiple subsidiaries in a holding company or conglomerate structure. Minimum of 12-16 years of progressive finance experience, including at least 5 years in a financial controller or head of reporting role within a large industrial, manufacturing, or resources company. Hands-on experience: with cost accounting in a manufacturing environment (steel, cement, FMCG, or similar) is strongly preferred. Strong working knowledge of IFRS, particularly IAS 16, IAS 36, IFRS 15, IFRS 16, IAS 2, and IAS 12.
