The Sonographer and Radiographer is responsible for performing a wide range of diagnostic imaging procedures using ultrasound and radiographic equipment to assist physicians in diagnosing and monitoring medical conditions. The successful candidate will produce high-quality diagnostic images, maintain imaging equipment, ensure patient comfort and safety throughout examinations, and collaborate closely with radiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning. Key Responsibilities: Diagnostic Imaging: Perform general radiographic examinations in accordance with physician requests and established imaging protocols. Operate, adjust, and maintain X-ray and ultrasound equipment efficiently. Ensure accurate documentation and electronic storage of all imaging studies. Conduct diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including abdominal, pelvic, obstetric, gynecological, vascular, musculoskeletal, thyroid, breast, and small-parts imaging where applicable. Assist radiologists during specialized imaging procedures when required. Evaluate image quality and repeat examinations only when clinically necessary. Position patients correctly to obtain optimal diagnostic images while ensuring their comfort and safety. Produce high-quality diagnostic images suitable for accurate clinical interpretation. Patient Care: Review patient history and clinical information relevant to requested imaging studies. Maintain patient dignity, confidentiality, and privacy at all times. Assess patients for contraindications or conditions requiring special precautions. Monitor patients during imaging procedures and respond appropriately to emergencies. Explain imaging procedures clearly and obtain informed cooperation before examinations. Provide reassurance to anxious patients and maintain a compassionate, professional approach. Welcome and identify patients using approved patient identification procedures. Radiation Protection and Safety: Verify pregnancy status where appropriate before exposure to ionizing radiation. Ensure proper use of radiation shielding devices and personal protective equipment (PPE). Adhere strictly to radiation protection principles, including ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable). Comply with national radiation safety regulations and hospital policies. Maintain a safe imaging environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Report equipment faults, radiation incidents, or safety concerns promptly. Equipment Management: Report equipment malfunctions promptly for servicing. Ensure ultrasound and X-ray machines remain clean, functional, and properly calibrated. Monitor imaging supplies and notify management when stock replenishment is required. Perform daily quality assurance and operational checks on imaging equipment. Assist in evaluating new imaging technologies and equipment when necessary. Documentation and Record Management: Maintain complete and accurate patient imaging records. Ensure proper labeling and archiving of diagnostic images. Document examination findings, technical notes, and patient observations accurately. Maintain confidentiality of patient records in accordance with hospital policies and applicable healthcare regulations. Infection Prevention and Quality Assurance: Follow infection prevention and control guidelines before, during, and after patient examinations. Disinfect ultrasound probes, imaging equipment, and examination rooms according to established protocols. Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives.
