As the administrative body of the region, CAF manages competitions, offers technical and administrative training courses while actively fostering the promotion and practice of football. The Confederation organizes championships such as the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN or AFCON), the most popular competition. It maintains very close links with FIFA in coordinating tournaments for different events such as the World Cup, Youth and Women competitions and the Olympic Games Football Tournaments. We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Legal Counsel Location: Cairo, Egypt Responsibilities: Support the Legal Affairs & Compliance Division in the day-to-day management of legal matters within CAF, with a particular focus on commercial legal support, contracts, intellectual property and legal advisory support to operational divisions, while escalating sensitive, strategic or high-risk matters to the Head of Legal Affairs and the Director of Legal Affairs & Compliance. Conduct legal research and prepare legal notes, summaries, opinions and first drafts on commercial, intellectual property, regulatory, governance and institutional matters. Support internal legal review of projects and transactions involving CAF divisions, especially Commercial, Competitions, Finance, Communications and other business-facing functions, escalating issues requiring management decisions or strategic guidance. Maintain proper filing, archiving and traceability of legal documents and legal matters in both electronic and physical format. Draft, review and revise commercial contracts and legal documents, including service agreements, consultancy agreements, NDAs, sponsorship-related agreements, marketing arrangements, media-related documents, and other routine legal instruments. Support the preparation, review and updating of CAF regulations, internal legal guidelines, templates and related documents under supervision. Support legal work related to CAF’s commercial and business operations, including sponsorship, commercial partnerships, rights exploitation and related contractual matters. Contribute to the monitoring of legal deadlines, contractual obligations and pending action points across assigned files. Support the Head of Legal Affairs in the provision of day-to-day legal services to CAF divisions, ensuring timely, accurate and practical legal support. Assist with intellectual property matters, including protection, use and review of rights relating to CAF competitions, brands, content and commercial assets. Carry out any other legal tasks assigned by the Head of Legal Affairs or the Director of Legal Affairs & Compliance. Assist in the coordination and follow-up of disputes, litigation and arbitration matters, including document collection, deadline tracking, liaison with external counsel and preparation of case summaries, where required. Requirements: (profile) Solid grounding in legal drafting, contract review and legal research. Interest in football governance, commercial operations and international legal practice is an asset. Familiarity with sponsorship, media, regulatory or governance matters is an asset. Comfortable working in a multicultural and fast-moving environment. Commercially minded and able to support business-facing legal matters in a practical way. Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or equivalent legal qualification. Structured, disciplined and execution oriented. English (fluent, written and spoken) – required. French – asset. Language skills Business know-how and IT skills Professionalism: reliable, discreet, well-organized and capable of handling confidential matters with sound judgment. Strong drafting and analytical skills. Ability to manage several files in parallel and work under pressure. Strong sense of confidentiality and institutional judgment. Demonstrated exposure to contract drafting, commercial advisory work, intellectual property matters, legal research and legal drafting. Competencies and characteristics Exposure to sponsorship, media, rights management, brand protection or related commercial legal work is an advantage. Good command of MS Office tools and ability to work with document management systems. Good understanding of commercial legal work, intellectual property and institutional legal frameworks. Team spirit: works closely with the Head of Legal Affairs, the Director of Legal Affairs & Compliance and colleagues across the organization; contributes to common objectives. Provides responsive, practical and solution-oriented legal support to internal clients. 3–6 years of relevant professional experience: as a lawyer, legal associate or in-house legal counsel. Excellent attention to detail. Experience: in a law firm, international organization, intellectual property institution, regulatory environment or commercial legal practice is an asset.
