They are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Cardiac Surgeon - Consultant Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers Employment Type: Full-time Job Summary The successful candidate will provide comprehensive surgical care from preoperative assessment through postoperative management and will work closely with the cardiac anaesthesia, perfusion, ICU, cardiology, and perioperative teams to develop a high-performing cardiac surgery service. We are seeking an experienced Consultant Cardiac Surgeon to establish and provide high-quality surgical cardiac services for patients requiring complex cardiovascular surgical interventions. Key Responsibilities: Participate actively in multidisciplinary cardiac case discussions and treatment planning. Develop individualized surgical treatment plans based on clinical assessment, investigations, and multidisciplinary recommendations. Supervise and mentor junior surgeons and other surgical team members. Work closely with cardiac anaesthetists, perfusionists, cardiologists, ICU teams, and perioperative nurses. Perform cardiac surgical procedures including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve surgery, and other appropriate cardiac procedures. Provide comprehensive preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative surgical management. Manage postoperative complications and provide appropriate surgical interventions. Evaluate and diagnose patients requiring cardiac surgical intervention. Participate in clinical audits, morbidity and mortality meetings, research, teaching, and quality improvement initiatives. Requirements: Strong leadership, clinical decision-making, and multidisciplinary collaboration skills. Commitment to teaching, mentorship, research, quality improvement, and patient safety. Medical Degree (MBBS / MD or equivalent). Experience: establishing or developing cardiac surgery services is an added advantage. Fellowship in Cardiothoracic/Cardiac Surgery or equivalent internationally recognized specialist qualification. Experience: in coronary artery bypass surgery and valve surgery is essential. Current specialist registration and medical practising licence, with eligibility for registration in Nigeria. Open to qualified local and expatriate candidates. Minimum of seven (7) years of post-specialization experience: in cardiac surgery. Demonstrated experience: performing major cardiac surgical procedures independently.
