We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Security Officer Location: Aba, Abia Department: Security Reports to: Security Supervisor / Chief Security Officer Main Function The Security Operative is responsible for safeguarding the hotel’s guests, employees, visitors, contractors, assets, facilities, and property by maintaining a visible security presence, preventing security breaches, controlling access, monitoring activities, and responding promptly to incidents. The role ensures a safe, secure, and welcoming environment that reflects the standards of a superior luxury hotel. The Security Operative performs routine patrols, monitors access points, screens persons and baggage where required, responds to emergencies, enforces hotel security policies, and supports the overall safety and security strategy of the hotel while delivering courteous and professional service to guests. Role Responsibilities: Security Operations: Maintain a visible and professional security presence throughout the hotel. Protect the lives, property, and assets of the hotel, guests, employees, and visitors. Report security concerns promptly to the Security Supervisor. Monitor assigned security posts and patrol areas diligently. Support the Chief Security Officer in maintaining a secure environment. Ensure compliance with the hotel’s security policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Patrol & Surveillance: Monitor for suspicious persons, unattended items, safety hazards, and unusual activities. Inspect emergency exits, staircases, fire escapes, and restricted areas. Report maintenance and safety issues identified during patrols. Conduct regular patrols of guest floors, public areas, restaurants, bars, conference rooms, parking areas, offices, back-of-house areas, and hotel perimeter. Record patrol observations accurately in security logs. Access Control: Prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas. Verify identification of employees, contractors, suppliers, and visitors where required. Monitor vehicle entry and exit where applicable. Control access to hotel entrances, exits, staff entrances, loading bays, and restricted areas. Ensure visitor registration procedures are followed. Direct guests and visitors courteously when necessary. Baggage & Vehicle Screening: Inspect vehicles entering hotel premises in accordance with security procedures. Conduct baggage screening using approved screening equipment or manual inspection procedures where required. Ensure prohibited items are not brought onto hotel premises. Escalate suspicious findings immediately. Handle screening activities professionally and respectfully. Guest Safety & Customer Service: Assist elderly guests, persons with disabilities, and vulnerable individuals when required. Maintain professionalism and discretion at all times. Respond promptly to guest requests related to safety and security. Provide directions and assistance to guests and visitors. Support a positive guest experience: without compromising security. Welcome guests courteously while maintaining security awareness. Incident Response: Assist in managing medical emergencies until appropriate responders arrive. Support evacuation procedures during emergencies. Respond promptly to alarms, emergencies, disturbances, accidents, and security incidents. Secure incident scenes and preserve evidence where necessary. Prepare accurate incident reports. Notify supervisors immediately of significant incidents. Fire Safety & Emergency Preparedness Identify potential fire hazards. Assist during fire drills and emergency evacuations. Report faulty fire safety equipment immediately. Inspect fire exits to ensure they remain unobstructed. Operate basic fire-fighting equipment where trained. Monitor compliance with fire safety procedures. Loss Prevention: Monitor suspicious activities and investigate where appropriate. Monitor loading and unloading activities. Prevent theft, vandalism, fraud, and unauthorized removal of hotel property. Report inventory theft or property damage immediately. Assist with investigations where required. Protect guest property and hotel assets. Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Observe occupational health and safety regulations. Support implementation of workplace safety procedures. Participate in health and safety awareness programmes. Report unsafe conditions immediately. Ensure compliance with hotel security and safety policies. Promote a safe environment for guests and employees. Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate security occurrence books and patrol logs. Submit daily shift reports to supervisors. Prepare incident reports promptly and accurately. Record visitor entries and access control information. Report equipment faults promptly. Maintain confidentiality of security information. Teamwork & Communication: Attend daily security briefings. Work closely with fellow security personnel and other hotel departments. Communicate effectively during incidents and emergencies. Maintain professional relationships across departments. Support colleagues during busy operational periods. Compliance & Continuous Improvement: Participate in mandatory security training programmes. Uphold the hotel’s standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity. Comply with all hotel policies, SOPs, and security procedures. Recommend improvements to security operations where appropriate. Maintain knowledge of emergency response procedures. Qualifications and Requirements: Education: and Certifications Minimum of Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) or equivalent. CCTV Operations Training (where applicable). Basic Security Operations Training. Experience: in a luxury hotel or hospitality establishment is an added advantage. Professional Certifications (Preferred) National Diploma (ND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Security Management, Criminology, Public Administration, or a related field is an added advantage. Experience: First Aid Certification. Minimum of 2 years of experience: in hotel security, corporate security, law enforcement, military, private security, or a similar environment.
