The organization is implementing the GiveWell Supported project in four states in Nigeria. It is an implementation and research project that aims to distribute over 5million insecticide treated nets (ITN) A major component of the project is demand creation to maximize coverage of ITN ownership and use and to deliver reminders and follow-up during and after the distribution campaigns. Four States have been selected for the campaign including Borno, FCT, Abia and Kogi States LGAs. The project has implementation and research components. The ITN will be distributed to all segments of the population across all LGAs in each selected state For the demand creation (DC) components, messages and materials will be developed, produced, distributed and aired to motivate the target audiences to adopt and maintain the behaviour for ITN ownership, uses and care. The design, review and production of DC material require the task of graphic design, photography, translation of messages, and audio production We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Translator Location: Abia Purpose To engage key short-term consultants who will translate messages from English into Igbo language, develop and finalize graphic designs, and produce audio and video messages in Igbo language in support of the ITN distribution project in the Abia State. Rationale for the Consultancy The assignment is justified by the need to translate messages for print materials and audio/video scripts English into Igbo language; develop graphic designs for print materials; and produce audio and video messages in two language versions: English into Igbo language. The majority of the target population are either low-literate or non-literate, hence the need to produce communication materials in appropriate local languages for the target audience. Specific Task, Deliverables and Person Specification Tasks for Translator: Receive the English versions of the key messages for the print materials, and the scripts for audio messages from Abia -SMEP and Malaria Consortium officials Translate the scripts of at least three audio messages from English into English into Igbo language. Revise the translated print materials and the scripts of the audio messages; based on review comments of Abia -SMEP and Malaria Consortium (MC). Translate the content of the print materials from English into Igbo language. Materials include motivational leaflets, message cards for town announcers and community mobilisers, posters and banners. Translate the scripts of at least three video jingles/messages from English into Igbo language Deliverables for Translator: A set of approved campaign photographs selected by Abia -SMEP and MC, edited as required, and saved in two sets of flash drives for Abia -SMEP and MC. A complete set of final, print-ready communication materials in four language versions English, and Igbo language including motivational leaflets, message cards for town announcers and community mobilisers, posters and banners. Finalized broadcast-ready audio recordings in four language versions English, and Igbo language saved in suitable formats for playback on approved audio devices. Six audio jingles finalized in 2 language versions: English into Igbo language, and submitted to Malaria Consortium. Finalized video jingles/messages in four language versions English, and Igbo language revised based on feedback and submitted in broadcast-ready and digital-ready formats to Malaria Consortium. Person Specifications for Translator (One translators for Igbo language) Indicate language you’re applying for in your CV. Demonstrated experience: translating print, audio and radio campaign materials into local languages, particularly English into Igbo language. Minimum of five years’ relevant experience: in translation, news casting, print communication or audio/radio production in the required language. At least a First Degree or Higher National Diploma in Language Arts, Mass Communication, Linguistics or a related field, with strong competence in English into Igbo language. Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail and ability to work effectively under tight timelines.
