We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Market & Business Development Officer Location: Abuja (FCT) Employment Type: Full-time Probation: 2 Months Start Date: As Soon As Possible Job Summary This is a field-based relationship and sales role. You will spend your time speaking with farmers, visiting markets and businesses, identifying opportunities, understanding demand, negotiating supply arrangements and building long-term commercial relationships on behalf of SIG Veggies. We are looking for an energetic, commercially minded Market Development & Business Development Officer to help us grow this network. The Role You will identify what vegetables the market needs, determine who can supply them, develop relationships with reliable farmers and secure customers who are willing to buy consistently. Your job is ultimately to help SIG Veggies answer two important questions: “What does the market need?” and “Where can we reliably get it?” The successful candidate will be responsible for developing both our customer network and farmer network. Key Responsibilities: Customer & Market Development: Negotiate supply agreements and commercial arrangements on behalf of SIG Veggies within approved company guidelines. Develop long-term relationships that lead to repeat orders and predictable demand. Build a strong pipeline of potential customers and consistently follow up on opportunities. Regularly engage existing and potential customers to understand their vegetable requirements. Identify customer needs including preferred vegetables, quality specifications, quantities, purchasing frequency and delivery requirements. Prospect supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, food businesses, processors, wholesalers and other institutional buyers. Identify and develop relationships with potential customers across Abuja and surrounding markets. Farmer Relationship Development: Identify and develop relationships with reliable vegetable farmers across Abuja and surrounding states. Help build a trusted network of farmers that SIG Veggies can grow with over time. Maintain strong relationships with farmers to ensure access to reliable supply when customers require it. Maintain regular communication with farmers to understand what they are growing, expected harvest periods and available quantities. Negotiate supply arrangements with farmers on behalf of SIG Veggies. Build a network of climate-smart, commercially oriented and reliable vegetable farmers. Understand farmers' production plans and identify potential supply opportunities. Market Intelligence: Gather information on competitor pricing and market conditions. Provide regular market feedback to management to help SIG Veggies make better production and purchasing decisions. Track customer preferences and changing purchasing patterns. Monitor vegetable prices, demand and availability across relevant Abuja markets. Identify vegetables experiencing increased or declining demand. Sales & Business Development: Follow up consistently with prospects and existing customers. Work with the farm and operations team to align customer demand with available supply. Help secure orders ahead of harvest where possible. Support the company in reducing wastage by connecting available produce with appropriate buyers. Generate new business opportunities through calls, WhatsApp, referrals, networking and physical visits. Convert qualified prospects into active customers. Relationship Management: Maintain regular contact with customers and farmers. Represent SIG Veggies professionally during all business engagements. Ensure commitments made to customers and farmers are properly communicated internally. Build trust through professionalism, responsiveness and consistency. You do not necessarily need to be an agronomist — but you must be able to understand the commercial side of vegetable production and develop enough knowledge of the products you are selling and sourcing. Experience: in fresh produce, agriculture, FMCG, food distribution, wholesale, retail or agribusiness will be highly advantageous. Agriculture Experience: Is an Advantage Strong follow-up skills — you should not need to be reminded to follow up with a prospect or farmer. Self-motivated and able to work independently. Ability to understand market demand and translate it into commercial opportunities. Existing relationships with farmers, vegetable traders, supermarkets, restaurants, food businesses or other relevant buyers will be a strong advantage. Strong communication and negotiation skills. Comfortable making phone calls, visiting businesses and engaging people in the field. What the Job Will Look Like: This is not a desk-only marketing position. Your day may involve: Visiting a farm to assess a potential supplier relationship. Speaking with farmers about their upcoming harvest. Checking market prices. Salary N100,000 / month + Performance Bonuses (base salary is supplemented by performance bonuses for achieving agreed monthly KPIs).
