Working with various partners across sub-Saharan Africa, we improve livelihoods, enhance food and nutrition security, increase employment, and preserve natural resource integrity. IITA is a member of CGIAR, a global agriculture research partnership for a food secure future. We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Driver Job ID: IITA/P&C/NRS2026-057 Location: Plateau Contract: 1-year renewable contract Duties Ensure the security and proper handling of passengers, project documents, and equipment during transportation. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in the course of duty. Observe all traffic regulations and maintain safe driving practices at all times. Transport project materials, equipment, and supplies to field locations and other designated destinations. Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor. Maintain accurate vehicle logbooks, fuel consumption records, maintenance records and trip documentation. Support logistical arrangements for trainings, workshops, field visits, stakeholder meetings, and other project activities. Assist with loading and unloading project materials where necessary. Conduct daily vehicle inspections and promptly report mechanical faults, accidents, or maintenance requirements. Ensure timely servicing, repairs, insurance renewals, and licensing of assigned vehicles in collaboration with the appropriate administrative unit. Ensure assigned vehicles are clean, roadworthy, and maintained in accordance with IITA policies and manufacturer recommendations. Provide safe and timely transportation for project staff, consultants, partners, and visitors in support of project activities. Requirements: A minimum of 3 years of professional driving experience, preferably with an NGO, government agency, or corporate organization, is also required. Minimum of a Secondary School Certificate; additional training in vehicle maintenance is an advantage. A valid driver’s licence appropriate to the vehicle class and a clean driving record are required. Competencies: The ideal candidate must have: Basic vehicle maintenance and troubleshooting skills. Strong organizational and time management skills. Physically fit and able to travel frequently, including to remote locations. Good knowledge of roads and routes within the state/district, including rural areas. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Good communication skills and a courteous, professional manner. Good knowledge of vehicle maintenance and care. Good interpersonal and communication skills. High level of integrity, professionalism, and reliability. Ability to work independently and under pressure. Willingness to travel frequently within the assigned state. Excellent driving skills and commitment to road safety.
