This is an operational role covering the full range of day-to-day HSE activities at BPL's lead battery recycling and manufacturing facility. Min Qualification: Degree Experience: Level: Mid level Experience: Length: 3 years Language Requirement: English Working Hours: Full Time - 8 to 5 Applicant Location: Abeokuta & Ogun State, Nigeria Job descriptions & requirements: Responsibilities: General HSE Operations: Support day-to-day health and safety activities across the Facility. Ensure compliance with applicable HSE legislation and that appropriate risk mitigation and control measures are in place. Identify gaps in current HSE policies and procedures and escalate recommendations to the Factory Operations Manager. Support HSE-related special projects as reasonably required from time to time. Incident Management: Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses; prepare corrective and preventative action reports within required timeframes. Respond to HSE emergencies and maintain accurate incident records. Risk Identification & Assessment: Conduct job hazard analyses, risk assessments, and participate in audit reviews. Monitor implementation of risk control measures and maintain up-to-date risk registers. Disseminate risk assessment findings to relevant departments. Environmental Monitoring: Monitor emission levels, effluent discharge, and waste handling in line with applicable environmental standards. Prepare internal environmental monitoring reports and support environmental incident investigations. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure day-to-day operational compliance with all applicable HSE regulations — including requirements: of NESREA, OGEPA, NAFDAC, SON, Federal Ministry of Environment (FMEnv), Federal Ministry of Labour (FML), Ogun State Ministry of Environment, OPIC Estate Management, and applicable LGA authorities. Support the proactive renewal of all HSE permits and licences; maintain an up-to-date legal register. Provide practical HSE guidance and support to workers and supervisors on applicable regulations and company procedures. Worker Safety: Monitor industrial hygiene and workplace health; enforce housekeeping and PPE compliance standards. Conduct planned and unplanned facility inspections; document and follow up on findings. Ensure safety and emergency equipment is maintained in good condition; enforce safe work procedures, including Permit to Work, Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), and safe handling of lead, acid, and other hazardous materials. Coordinate and implement emergency drills and emergency response procedures. Safety Communication: Engage workers on HSE matters and encourage active participation in safety programmes. Facilitate toolbox talks, safety inductions, and HSE training sessions. Maintain safety signage, notices, and HSE communication boards across the Facility. Reporting: Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly HSE performance reports for the Factory Operations Manager. Track and follow up on the closure of action items from audits, incidents, and inspections. Other HSE Functions: Perform all other HSE functions as directed by the Factory Operations Manager, Executive Director, or MD/CEO. Requirements: HND in a relevant field (Environmental Science, Engineering, Sciences, or related). NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent recognised HSE qualification/ISPON membership, or other relevant professional HSE body membership. Proven experience: in an HSE operational role in an industrial or manufacturing environment. Minimum 3 years' hands-on HSE experience: in a manufacturing facility. Experience: working in environments involving lead, acid, or other hazardous materials. Experience: developing and implementing HSE policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
