We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Senior Structural Consultant Resident Engineer (Supervision) Location: Victoria Island / Ikeja - Lagos Employment Type: Full-time Job Summary Ensures the entire structural scope of the project is delivered safely and strictly according to design specifications, international engineering codes, and Lagos state regulatory frameworks. Acts as the client’s principal technical representative on-site, supervising and auditing the structural contractors' works (piling, foundations, reinforced concrete elements, and structural steel framing). Leverages a minimum of 10 years of deep engineering experience: (including hands-on contractor-side execution) to critically review shop drawings, audit material quality, and detect contractor deviations, structural shortcuts, or cost-inflations. Key Responsibilities: Construction Supervision & Structural Quality Assurance (QA/QC): Uses extensive contractor-side experience: to proactively identify critical field errors, corner-cutting, sub-standard steel fixing, poor concrete compaction, or premature formwork removal. Conducts continuous, rigorous field inspections to monitor the contractor's structural works (piling operations, reinforcement rebar bending/fixing, formwork stability, and concrete casting). Issues Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) to contractors immediately when structural elements fail to meet project specifications or safety standards, and monitors corrective actions. Witnesses, monitors, and certifies all critical structural testing phases (e.g., pile load tests, ultrasonic concrete tests, rebar tensile strength tests, and concrete cube compressive strength crushing tests). Drawing Review & Technical Auditing: Critically reviews and approves/rejects the contractor’s BIM (Revit Structural) models, shop drawings, rebar bending schedules (BBS), and formwork design drawings before site execution. Evaluates contractor material submittals (cement brands, aggregate quality, rebar mill certificates, and concrete mix designs) to verify exact compliance with the consultant’s specifications. Resolves complex on-site spatial conflicts and coordinates structural elements with mechanical, electrical, and architectural consultant teams to ensure proper MEP wall and floor openings. Contract Administration & Financial Control: Assesses the technical and financial merit of contractor-submitted Variation Orders (VOs) and claims, defending the client against unsubstantiated costs. Reviews, audits, and signs off on the structural contractor’s monthly progress valuations and joint measurements alongside the Quantity Surveyor. Evaluates and approves the contractor's structural "As-Built" records and material tracing logs prior to building handover. Lagos Structural Regulatory Enforcement: Coordinates and prepares the structural project technical documentation required for formal stage-by-stage inspections and ultimate certification by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LSMTL). Ensures the contractor’s methods align fully with the National Building Code of Nigeria (NBC) and localized geotechnical guidelines. Required Qualifications & Competencies Education: & Professional Licensing: Bachelor’s degree (B.Eng/B.Sc) in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited university. Corporate Membership with the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) or the Nigerian Institution of Structural Engineers (NIStructE) is highly required. Valid NYSC discharge or exemption certificate. Mandatory Active Registration with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) as a Registered Engineer. Experience: Profile: Dual-Perspective Track Record: Must have a blended career history, featuring significant time spent executing foundations and structural frames on-site for a reputable civil engineering Contractor, alongside experience: working in a Consultant/Supervisory capacity. Minimum of 10 years of total post-qualification experience: in structural engineering. Proven experience: representing structural consultants on active major building sites—specifically high-rise structures navigating the challenging soil profiles and high water tables of Lagos (e.g., Ikoyi, Victoria Island, Lekki, or Lagos Mainland). Technical & Soft Skills: Assertive communication and negotiation skills needed to confidently manage, direct, and hold contractors accountable on-site. Impeccable technical report writing skills (site inspection logs, non-conformance reports, and structural milestone reports). Mastery in reading and evaluating complex Revit (BIM Structural) and AutoCAD engineering drawings. Deep expertise in international structural engineering codes used in Nigeria (Eurocodes, British Standards BS 8110 / BS 5950, and local building regulations). Thorough technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering fields, including deep foundation systems (bored piles, driven piles, raft foundations) and structural concrete/steel execution.
