DepartmentSecurity Operations / Loss Prevention3. Reports ToSecurity Supervisor / Security Manager4. Job PurposeThe Shopping Mall Security Officer is responsible for protecting customers, employees, tenants, company property, merchandise, facilities and other assets within the shopping mall. The officer shall maintain a visible security presence, prevent and detect theft and other losses, enforce security procedures, respond to incidents and emergencies, and provide professional assistance to customers and mall occupants.5. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Access Control & SecurityControl and monitor access to the mall, restricted areas, offices, warehouses and staff entrances.Check authorized personnel, contractors, vendors and visitors where required.Prevent unauthorized access to restricted areas.Monitor suspicious persons, activities and behaviour.Enforce mall security rules and procedures professionally.B. Loss PreventionDetect and prevent shoplifting, theft, fraud, vandalism and other forms of loss.Maintain surveillance of high-risk areas, including entrances, exits, warehouses, loading areas, cash points and merchandise sections.Conduct appropriate checks in accordance with approved mall procedures.Immediately report suspected theft, loss or security breaches to the Supervisor.Assist in protecting evidence and preserving the integrity of incident scenes.C. Patrol DutiesConduct regular patrols of assigned beats and designated areas.Check doors, gates, emergency exits, fire equipment and other security-sensitive points.Identify unusual conditions, safety hazards, damaged property or suspicious activity.Record patrol observations and report abnormalities promptly.D. Customer & Tenant ProtectionMaintain a professional and courteous attitude toward customers, tenants and visitors.Assist customers with basic directions and security-related enquiries.Respond appropriately to complaints, disputes and disturbances.De-escalate minor conflicts and request supervisory or police assistance when necessary.E. CCTV & Incident MonitoringRemain alert to activities within assigned areas and cooperate with the CCTV Control Room.Respond promptly to security alerts and suspicious activities.Assist CCTV operators and supervisors during investigations.Provide accurate information regarding incidents observed.F. Emergency ResponseRespond immediately to fire alarms, medical emergencies, accidents, fights, evacuation situations and other incidents.Assist with emergency evacuation and crowd control.Support emergency services when they arrive.Report all emergencies through the established chain of command.G. Traffic & Parking SecurityAssist with vehicle and pedestrian movement where assigned.Monitor parking areas and report suspicious vehicles or activities.Prevent unauthorized parking or access to restricted parking areas.Assist in managing congestion during peak periods and special events.H. Reporting & DocumentationMaintain accurate occurrence books, patrol records and incident reports.Report theft, accidents, damage, suspicious activities and other incidents immediately.Complete shift handover properly.Ensure all important information is communicated to the incoming shift.6. Minimum Qualifications & RequirementsMinimum of SSCE/WAEC/NECO or equivalent.Previous security, loss prevention, military, police or related experience: is an advantage.Physically and mentally capable of performing security duties.Good communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to read and write basic reports.Ability to remain calm under pressure.Good observation and situational-awareness skills.Must be trustworthy, disciplined and responsible.8. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Performance may be measured by:Attendance and punctuality.Post discipline and adherence to assigned beats.Number and quality of security incidents detected/prevented.Response time to incidents and emergencies.Accuracy and timeliness of reports.Compliance with SOPs and client instructions.Customer/tenant service standards.Proper use of security equipment.Supervisor/client assessment.Prevention and reduction of theft, losses and security breaches.9. Working ConditionsShift-based work, including day, evening, night, weekends and public holidays.Extended periods of standing and walking may be required.Officer may be deployed indoors, outdoors, at entrances, parking areas, warehouses or other designated locations.Must remain operationally ready throughout the assigned shift.10. AuthorityThe Security Officer has authority to:Challenge unauthorized persons within restricted areas.Deny unauthorized access in accordance with mall procedures.Report and escalate suspicious activities.Detain a person only where legally permitted and in accordance with company/client procedures, pending appropriate escalation to management or law enforcement.Request assistance from the Security Supervisor or relevant emergency authorities.Important: Security Officers must not use unnecessary or excessive force, abuse their authority, or take the law into their own hands.11.
