We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Senior Accountant Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers Job Type: Full-time Overview The role requires strong technical accounting knowledge, hands-on experience, and the ability to supervise junior finance staff. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and supporting management with reliable financial information for decision-making. Key Responsibilities: Financial Reporting & Accounting: Maintain proper accounting records and supporting schedules. Review and reconcile balance sheet and profit & loss accounts. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts in line with IFRS. Ensure timely and accurate posting of transactions in the general ledger. Budgeting & Performance Monitoring: Monitor budget performance and prepare variance analysis. Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes. Provide insights on cost control and revenue performance. Statutory & Regulatory Compliance: Coordinate preparation and filing of statutory returns. Ensure compliance with Nigerian tax laws (CIT, VAT, WHT, PAYE). Liaise with tax consultants, auditors, and regulatory bodies (FIRS, State IRS). Support external audits and respond to audit queries. Internal Controls & Process Improvement: Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures. Review accounting processes and recommend improvements. Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets. Team Supervision & Collaboration: Provide guidance and on-the-job training to finance team members. Supervise and review work of junior accountants. Work closely with operations, procurement, HR, and business units. Systems & Data Management: Work with ERP / accounting systems (knowledge of SAP S4 HANA software will be an advantage) Ensure data integrity and accuracy within financial systems. Support system upgrades or finance-related implementations where required Requirements: 4-6 years relevant accounting experience. Strong understanding of vendor invoicing, purchase order matching, and accounts payable procedures. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (advanced level preferred). Strong knowledge of IFRS and Nigerian tax regulations. Familiarity with Nigerian tax and financial reporting standards. At least 2–3 years in a senior or supervisory accounting role. Strong financial analysis and reporting skills. Experience: in oil & gas industry is an advantage. Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP, or QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.
