We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Survey Engineer Location: Lagos Role Summary Working closely with the Project Manager, engineers, architects, consultants, and contractors, the Survey Engineer ensures surveying activities are executed to the required technical standards, tolerances, and project specifications. The role provides critical technical input to support construction accuracy, quality assurance, earthworks control, and successful project delivery. The role ensures the precise translation of design information into physical construction works through the establishment of site control networks, structural alignments, levels, and dimensional references. The Survey Engineer is responsible for providing accurate surveying, setting-out, and measurement support throughout the lifecycle of building and infrastructure development projects. Key Responsibilities: Survey Control & Site Setting-Out: Establish and verify horizontal and vertical alignments, levels, and site datums in accordance with approved drawings and specifications. Establish, maintain, and verify primary survey control networks, benchmarks, and reference points to support accurate project execution. Conduct setting-out activities for building structures, foundations, structural grids, roads, drainage systems, utilities, and other civil infrastructure works. Construction Surveying & Quality Verification: Perform construction surveys, including structural setting-out, level checks, alignment verification, and dimensional control throughout project execution. Conduct pre-construction, topographical, as-built, and verification surveys to support earthworks, construction progress, and quality control. Prepare survey reports, tolerance checks, and as-built documentation to confirm compliance with design requirements: and construction standards. Survey Data Processing & Technical Reporting: Process, analyse, and manage survey data using appropriate surveying, CAD, GIS, and engineering software to support project delivery. Maintain accurate survey records, coordinate databases, setting-out logs, and technical documentation. Perform earthwork calculations, including excavation quantities, cut-and-fill analysis, and volume assessments to support cost and progress monitoring. Technical Coordination & Field Supervision: Ensure all surveying activities comply with project specifications, HSE requirements, and established professional standards. Collaborate with architects, engineers, consultants, and construction teams to resolve survey-related issues and coordinate design information. Provide technical guidance to assistant surveyors and survey teams, ensuring accuracy, productivity, and compliance with project requirements. Qualifications & Experience: Professional registration or membership with a recognised surveying institution or professional body is an added advantage. Degree or equivalent qualification in Surveying, Geomatics Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related engineering, construction, or built environment discipline. Proven experience: in construction setting-out, site control establishment, structural alignment, levelling, and as-built surveying. Experience: supervising survey teams and coordinating surveying activities across multiple project locations is an advantage. Practical experience: working with large-scale developments involving buildings, roads, drainage systems, utilities, and earthworks is highly desirable. Minimum of 4–6 years relevant experience: in engineering surveying, preferably within building construction, residential developments, commercial projects, or infrastructure works. Knowledge, Skills & Competencies: Ability to prepare clear technical reports, survey documentation, and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams. Proficiency in operating surveying equipment, including total stations, robotic total stations, GNSS/RTK receivers, digital levels, and related field instruments. Strong analytical, spatial reasoning, and technical problem-solving skills with high attention to accuracy and detail. Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, commitment to quality, and adherence to health and safety standards. Strong knowledge of engineering surveying principles, construction setting-out procedures, coordinate systems, levelling, and measurement techniques. Ability to interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings and translate design information into accurate site execution. Competence in survey data processing, CAD drafting, GIS applications, and relevant surveying or engineering software. Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a construction environment. Working Conditions: Primarily site-based with periodic travel between project locations. Required to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and comply with all Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) policies and procedures.
