We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Junior Accountant Officer Location: Lagos Employment Type: Full-time Department: Finance & Accounts Reports To: Account Manager Job Summary The Account Officer will support the Finance & Accounts function by maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounting transactions, reconciling customer accounts and following up on outstanding customer payments. A major responsibility of this role is debt recovery and receivables follow-up. The Account Officer will regularly contact customers with outstanding balances, monitor promised payment dates and provide updates to the Account Manager on the status of outstanding debts. Key Responsibilities: Debt Recovery & Customer Accounts – Major Responsibilities: Monitor customer payment dates and follow up on agreed payment commitments. Follow up with customers on outstanding invoices and overdue payments through calls, emails and payment reminders. Support other debt recovery activities as assigned by the Account Manager. Escalate customers who fail to respond or make agreed payments. Send payment reminders to customers as directed. Identify overdue accounts and report them to the Account Manager. Maintain an up-to-date record of outstanding customer balances. Assist in resolving customer account discrepancies or invoice-related issues that may delay payment. Reconcile customer accounts and ensure payments received are properly recorded. Prepare regular updates on outstanding debts and recovery progress for the Account Manager. Accounting Operations: Post customer payments and other transactions into the accounting system. Record daily financial transactions accurately and on time. Carry out customer and supplier account reconciliations. Maintain proper filing of financial records and supporting documents. Prepare and process invoices, receipts, payment vouchers and other accounting documents. Assist with bank reconciliations and investigate outstanding entries. Assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable activities. Assist with month-end accounting activities and preparation of financial reports. Reporting & Administrative Support: Prepare basic accounting schedules and reports as required. Assist with monitoring daily cash and bank transactions. Provide the Account Manager with accurate information on customer balances and collections. Perform other accounting duties assigned by the Account Manager. Ensure accounting records and documents are properly maintained. Key Performance Areas (KPIs) The Account Officer will be assessed based on: Accuracy of invoices, receipts and accounting records. Compliance with accounting procedures and instructions. Timely posting and reconciliation of customer payments. Accuracy of customer account records. Timely submission of debt recovery updates. Amount and percentage of assigned debts successfully recovered. Proper filing and documentation of accounting records. Timely and consistent follow-up of outstanding customer debts. Responsiveness to customers and internal departments. Qualifications Professional accounting qualification is not mandatory. Good knowledge of basic accounting principles. Bachelor's Degree or HND in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline. Experience: Previous experience: in accounts receivable, credit control or debt recovery is an advantage. Minimum of 2 years' relevant experience: in accounting or finance. Experience: using accounting software such as Zoho Books, QuickBooks, Sage or similar software is an advantage. Skills & Competencies: Basic accounting and bookkeeping skills. Integrity and confidentiality. Ability to work effectively with the Sales and Finance teams. Good debt recovery and follow-up skills. Ability to follow up consistently and meet deadlines. Good communication and customer relationship skills. Attention to detail and accuracy. Good record-keeping skills. Good numerical and analytical ability. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Salary N150,000 - N180,000 per month.
