We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: In-House Geologist Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers Employment Type: Full-time The Opportunity The role will support drilling, borehole and water-well projects, subsurface investigations, well inspections and related engineering activities. This is a hands-on position. The successful candidate must be comfortable working directly at project sites, personally operating geological and survey equipment, interpreting field data and producing comprehensive professional reports. Bistar Limited is seeking a competent, practical and field-oriented Geologist to join our technical team. Practical Bistar is specifically looking for a geologist who takes ownership of field assignments, understands the importance of accurate data, cares for technical equipment properly and can translate geological findings into workable recommendations for drilling and engineering teams. Key Responsibilities: Collect, label and document soil, rock, cutting and water samples where required. Interpret geological, logging, inspection and survey data and translate findings into practical recommendations. Support well construction, development, rehabilitation and troubleshooting activities. Carry out or supervise borehole logging, well inspection and downhole camera surveys. Equipment & Practical Capability Candidates must be willing and able to personally operate field equipment, rather than relying entirely on technicians or third-party contractors. Conduct geological and hydrogeological field investigations, site reconnaissance and subsurface assessments. Maintain accurate field notes, photographs, coordinates, depth records, equipment readings and project documentation. Prepare detailed lithological and borehole logs from drilling samples, cuttings and field observations. Work closely with engineers, drillers, technicians and project managers during field execution. Monitor drilling activities and accurately identify, describe and document formations encountered. Technical Reporting: Maintain records that allow findings and conclusions to be independently reviewed and verified. Develop clear tables, logs, geological sections, photographs and supporting technical exhibits. Contribute geological input to technical proposals, tenders, methodologies and client presentations. A major responsibility of this position is the preparation of comprehensive technical reports. Prepare geological field reports, borehole logs, well inspection reports and project completion documentation. The Geologist must be able to compile field observations, logs, photographs, survey information, laboratory results and other technical data into structured reports containing clear interpretations, conclusions and recommendations. Requirements: Qualifications & Experience: Demonstrable experience: carrying out geological fieldwork and preparing comprehensive technical reports. Bachelor's degree in Geology, Applied Geology, Geoscience or a closely related discipline. Relevant professional membership, certification or postgraduate qualification will be an advantage. Experience: in water-well/borehole drilling, hydrogeology, geological logging, downhole surveys, geotechnical investigation or oil & gas field operations will be an advantage. Preferably 3-7 years of relevant practical experience; exceptional candidates with less experience: and strong field competence may be considered. Practical experience: with the following is highly desirable: GPS and field survey equipment. Downhole camera and borehole inspection systems. Water-level, depth and related measurement equipment. Sampling equipment and digital field data acquisition systems. Borehole deviation or other downhole survey tools where applicable. Geological and borehole logging equipment. Required Competencies: Good computer skills, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel. Strong practical field geology, observation and documentation skills. Ability to interpret geological, borehole and field data and develop technically sound recommendations. Excellent technical writing ability and meticulous attention to measurements, depths, descriptions and equipment readings. Willingness to travel and work at project locations as required.
