We are recruiting to fill the position below: Job Title: Toolpusher (Rig Manager) Location: Lagos / Port Harcourt - Rivers Employment Type: Full-time Overview of Job The role also provides leadership to rig personnel, manages operational priorities and rig moves, oversees performance and competency development, and maintains effective communication between the rig, client, and onshore support teams. The role provides overall operational leadership on the rig, coordinating drilling, maintenance, materials, HSE, and other rig activities in collaboration with the Client Representative, Rig Superintendent, department heads, and third-party service providers. The Toolpusher (Rig Manager) is responsible for the overall management of rig operations, personnel, equipment, and resources to ensure the approved well programme is executed safely, efficiently, and productively. The Toolpusher ensures that rig equipment and systems remain operational and properly maintained, regulatory and certification requirements: are met, and Company policies, procedures, and HSE standards are consistently applied. Roles And Responsibilities: Rig Operations & Well Programme Execution: Provides overall direction and supervision for drilling, maintenance, and associated rig operations. Manages the planning and efficient execution of the approved drilling and workover programme in coordination with the Client Representative and rig department heads. Coordinates activities across rig departments to minimise operational downtime and ensure effective use of personnel and resources. Monitors rig operations to ensure established operating parameters, procedures, and equipment limits are observed. Maintains regular communication with the Rig Superintendent on rig operations, performance, requirements, and emerging issues. Conducts daily operations meetings with the Client Representative and relevant rig department heads. Ensures pre-job meetings are conducted for hazardous, critical, and non-routine operations. Ensures operational issues that may affect the well programme are promptly identified, escalated, and addressed. Maintains a visible presence at the rig floor or relevant operational areas during critical activities. Equipment, Maintenance & Operational Readiness: Ensures rig equipment and structures maintain valid inspections, certifications, and statutory documentation. Monitors equipment failures and recurring maintenance issues and ensures appropriate corrective actions are implemented. Sets maintenance priorities to ensure critical equipment and systems remain available for operations. Monitors the condition, utilization, testing, inspection, and operational readiness of rig equipment and systems. Oversees implementation of the Company's Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) across rig departments. Ensures third-party equipment and services used on the rig meet applicable Company, client, certification, and operational requirements. Coordinates with the Chief Mechanic, Chief Electrician, Tourpushers, and other relevant personnel on equipment maintenance and repair requirements. Ensures adequate spare parts and resources are available to support maintenance and operational requirements. Rig Move & Critical Operations: Provides direct operational leadership during critical and high-risk rig activities. Leads and coordinates rig-down, transportation, rig-up, and associated rig move activities. Develops rig move plans in coordination with the Rig Superintendent and appointed third-party rig movers. Ensures the rig, camp, and associated equipment are safely prepared for mobilization and subsequent operations. Ensures personnel, equipment, materials, and third-party resources required for rig moves are appropriately planned and coordinated. Ensures rig move activities are conducted in accordance with approved procedures and HSE requirements. Client, Contractor & Regulatory Coordination: Ensures rig operations comply with applicable regulatory requirements, standards, contractual obligations, and Company procedures. Ensures third-party personnel comply with applicable Company and rig-specific procedures while on location. Coordinates third-party services and activities on the rig in collaboration with the Client Representative. Maintains effective working relationships with Client Representatives, rig department heads, third-party contractors, and other relevant stakeholders. Supports client, regulatory, and Company inspections and audits and ensures identified actions are appropriately addressed. Maintains effective communication between rig operations and relevant onshore support functions. HSE & Operational Compliance: Ensures new arrivals receive appropriate rig safety induction and briefing before commencing work. Ensures emergency drills and exercises involving firefighting, lifesaving, well control, and other emergency equipment are conducted and recorded as required. Maintains high standards of hygiene and housekeeping across the rig and camp. Participates actively in safety meetings, inspections, audits, drills, and Company safety programmes. Provides visible HSE leadership and ensures Company HSE policies, procedures, and programmes are communicated, understood, and applied by all rig personnel. Ensures corrective actions arising from incidents, audits, inspections, and operational reviews are appropriately closed out. Ensures the Emergency Response Plan is current, available, and understood by rig personnel. Ensures pre-job risk assessments, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), toolbox talks, work permits, and other required controls are implemented. Ensures incidents, hazards, unsafe conditions, and abnormal situations are appropriately reported, investigated, and addressed. Exercises authority to stop any operation that presents an unacceptable risk to personnel, equipment, the well, or the rig. Budget, Materials & Inventory Management: Monitors rig expenditure and resource utilization against approved requirements. Oversees inventory levels and ensures critical operational and maintenance requirements: are adequately supported. Supports the development and submission of the rig's annual maintenance and operational budget. Ensures requirements: for critical equipment, spares, and consumables are identified and communicated in a timely manner. Reviews rig-generated requisitions for equipment, spare parts, materials, and consumables. Works with the Materials Coordinator and department heads to maintain appropriate stock levels. Rig Administration & Reporting: Ensures significant operational issues and requirements: are appropriately documented and communicated. Maintains accurate and timely records and documentation relating to rig operations, equipment, personnel, and other operational matters. Ensures equipment certification, inspection, maintenance, and operational records are properly maintained. Ensures required daily, periodic, and operational reports are prepared and submitted within established timelines. Provides the Rig Superintendent and relevant stakeholders with timely information on rig performance, operational challenges, equipment status, and personnel matters. Team Leadership & Development: Ensures personnel possess the required competence, certification, and training for their assigned responsibilities. Provides overall leadership, direction, and coordination to rig-based personnel. Manages the rig training programme and supports structured on-the-job training and competency development. Coaches, mentors, and develops personnel for increased responsibility and career progression. Monitors the validity of required personal and crew certifications and training in line with the applicable training matrix. Ensures rig personnel understand their roles, responsibilities, reporting lines, and operational expectations. Ensures employees receive periodic and annual performance appraisals and appropriate performance feedback. Promotes effective communication, teamwork, accountability, and discipline across the rig. Ensures performance and conduct issues are addressed promptly and documented in accordance with Company procedures. Makes recommendations regarding employee development, transfers, progression, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
