Government jobs in Nigeria: application guide

Government recruitment is usually announced through an official advert, portal or public institution. Start with the vacancy number, institution, job grade, closing date and exact submission instructions rather than relying on a copied social post.

Use the national public-service portal, ministry or agency page, and the relevant regional or local government website for roles in Nigeria. Confirm the employer domain, email address, phone number, reference and deadline against the official advert.

Prepare a clean CV, certified or requested documents only when the advert requires them, and a concise cover letter that matches the advertised reference. Keep one folder with current versions so a short deadline does not cause inconsistent documents.

Be cautious when a page asks for money, promises shortlisting, uses a personal payment account or cannot identify the recruiting institution. Government recruitment should not require candidates to pay for interviews, forms or placement.

Government adverts can close quickly. Save a government or regional job alert, check the official source again before applying, and keep the submission confirmation for follow-up through the advertised channel.
