Role Summary
The Account Officer supports the Finance function by maintaining accurate financial records, processing accounting transactions, assisting with financial reporting, payroll, reconciliations, audits, statutory compliance, and bookkeeping.
The role contributes to sound financial management, effective internal controls, regulatory compliance, and timely financial information for decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Head of Finance in preparing budgets, financial analyses, and management reports.
- Maintain proper filing and documentation of financial records in both physical and electronic formats.
- Support statutory compliance by assisting with tax computations, filings, and other regulatory reporting requirements.
- Process and verify invoices, payment vouchers, expense claims, quotations, and supporting documentation.
- Coordinate and support internal and external audit activities by preparing schedules and responding to audit queries.
- Ensure confidentiality, accuracy, and integrity of all financial information.
- Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with applicable accounting standards (IFRS/GAAP).
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records, including the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll records.
- Prepare monthly bank, ledger, supplier, customer, and other account reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies.
- Perform any other finance or administrative duties assigned by the Head of Finance.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiency through financial analysis.
- Perform daily bookkeeping and ensure all financial transactions are recorded accurately and promptly.
- Monitor accounts payable and receivable to support effective cash flow management.
- Follow up on outstanding receivables and assist in debt collection activities.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of internal controls to safeguard company assets and minimize financial risks.
- Qualifications &
Experience
Prior
supporting payroll processing, reconciliations, and audit preparation is desirable.
Demonstrated integrity and ability to handle confidential financial information responsibly.
Must have 3-5 years' relevant
in an accounting, bookkeeping, or finance role.
Hands-on
with accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, or similar ERP systems) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Part-qualification or active progress toward a recognized professional certification (e.g., ICAN, ACCA, CIMA, or CPA) is an advantage; full qualification is a strong plus.
Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with high accuracy under deadline pressure.
Bachelor's Degree (BSc) / HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
Sound working knowledge of accounting principles and standards (IFRS/GAAP) and statutory/tax compliance requirements.
