Job Summary
We are seeking a highly organised, analytical, and experienced Accountant to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Accounts Department.
The Accountant will also supervise the Accounts team, strengthen financial controls, and ensure that financial processes are carried out accurately, efficiently, and in line with company policies and applicable accounting standards.
The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, managing reconciliations, monitoring cash flow, ensuring statutory compliance, and providing financial information to support management decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure proper filing, documentation, and safekeeping of financial records.
- Monitor financial controls and identify areas for improvement.
- Review payroll-related financial records and ensure appropriate accounting entries.
- Monitor cash flow and provide management with regular updates on the organisation's financial position.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Finance & Accounts Department.
- Ensure timely preparation and submission of statutory financial and tax-related reports.
- Support management in financial planning, cost control, and decision-making through accurate financial analysis.
- Perform other finance-related duties as assigned by management.
- Ensure proper recording and reconciliation of revenue from clinical services, pharmacy, laboratory, HMO, and other revenue streams.
- Review and approve accounting entries and supporting documentation in line with established approval processes.
- Prepare and analyse income statements, balance sheets, cash flow statements, and other management reports.
- Supervise, coordinate, and provide guidance to members of the Accounts team.
- Perform and review bank, cash, customer, supplier, and other account reconciliations.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies and unusual transactions.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records and accounting documentation.
- Support the preparation and monitoring of departmental and organisational budgets.
- Coordinate the preparation of documents required for statutory, internal, and external audits.
- Prepare periodic financial reports and presentations for management.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, tax regulations, statutory requirements, and internal financial policies.
- Analyse financial performance and highlight significant variances, risks, and areas requiring management attention.
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Liaise with auditors, banks, vendors, tax consultants, and other relevant stakeholders when required.
- Monitor daily transactions, income, expenses, receivables, payables, and cash movements.
- Monitor accounts receivable and payable and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Ensure adherence to segregation of duties and other internal financial controls.
- Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Good understanding of applicable Nigerian tax and statutory requirements.
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, accountability, and professionalism.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Professional qualification or part-qualification with ICAN, ACCA, ANAN, or another recognised accounting body is an added advantage.
- Strong leadership and team-management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP software.
- Experience preparing and analysing financial statements.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, budgeting, taxation, and financial controls.
- Previous experience in the healthcare sector is an added advantage.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Experience with financial reconciliation, cash-flow management, accounts payable and receivable.
- 4–10years of relevant accounting experience, preferably with experience supervising an Accounts/Finance function.
